My w860cu broke, is there anything I can save/sell off it?

So my old w860cu broke the other day, and I was wondering if it's possible to disassemble it and sell anything off of it. Some of the configurations are on my sig.

I know I can get the HDD, and I'm planning to put it into my next laptop if I can configure it without a HDD. Another thing I might get are the RAM cards, but I'm not very familiar with RAM so I don't know. I'd most likely sell those because I want 8-16gb on my new laps. I also see an Ultimate-N 6400 thing (wlan card) which I may also put into my new laptop if it's compatible.

edit: got my bluray drive :p
Don't know if I can do anything with that though.

Within the same chipset generation, you can reuse all configurable parts:

    - CPU
    - RAM
    - WiFi
    - HDD

With some rewiring and possibly other mechanical changes ,also

    - LCD panel (often very high quality)
    - Bluetooth module

But I am a bit startled about the statement: that the computer broke. What exactly happened? The W8x0CU is a very robust design. It will generally not overheat so that components fail, so the only thing I can see is that the motherboard failed.

Generally, you will get very little money from the parts, so you like the machine, you may investigate replacing whatever failed. It is expensive, but nowhere as expensive as buying a new gaming laptop.

    Good luck!

Its a good idea to put every part of it on-sale. For pricing - ask in the pricing quote section on this forum.

Its also a good idea to save your Wifi card, HDD and your blueray drive. You can configure a new laptop based on P150EM or whatever it is you want, and get it without WiFi, HDD and optical to save the money.

If I understand correct, the chassis broke on your laptop, right?
If the LCD panel is okay, you can sell it too. Any other part that might be good is better off sold too. The battery, the PSU...sell those also.

    Good luck!

Thanks! :) I'm currently trying to get anything I can out of it, hopefully either using them for my next laptop or selling them for a little bit extra, I'm mostly trying to remove one month of money saving.

I don't know why, but overnight something happened. It just didn't start up in the morning, and there's this kind of burned smell coming from inside. I took it to a PC repair shop but they said it would cost upwards to 1000€ to get replacement parts from abroad and fix it. With today's prices I could get a very similar laptop without OS for that price, and 285m is the most unfortunately sucky GPU that I know of, so I'd much rather get a new one too.

Yep I'm trying to take everything I can. XD I'm not completely sure where I could sell them though, specially if they're something very un-general that would require very specific computer to fit into.

The chassis is alright, for now lol. I'll try to get the LCD off too. :>

OMG - My sentiments to you.
As I see from your responses, you will buy a new computer, so there's no more to do.

However, I wonder if this motherboard has the mini-PCIe connector near the ODD connector (accessible from under the main battery).

A propos battery, if yours was in good shape, you might put it on sale too. I for one, would be interested :)

Too bad I am not at home, so I cannot check the schematics - out of curiosity, I'd like to know what burned.

    RIP W860CU :(

BTW last I checked - about six months ago - the W860CU motherboard could be ordered for less than 400 Euros. I find the 1000 you wrote greatly exaggerated. But hey, things may have changed...

Yeahh it really sucks that it popped like this. :S I'm going to mount some of the parts onto my wall of cool stuff. :) Most likely the back cover and/or keyboard, power button, gtx285m and the CPU.

I don't know about the mini-PCIe, I'm not very familiar with hardware components besides the main configurable parts.

My battery was in an awful shape actually, it would barely idle for 15 minutes without a power cord. XD But that reminds me I have 2 ac adapters right now since I had one extra. I might be able to sell those for cheaps.

I don't know, personally I would only destroy the thing by trying to change the entire mobo. :p They said 1000€+ so I don't know any other options besides paying that and buying a new laptop. I've been thinking of buying a new laptop for a while now, so it's pretty ok actually. :)
