Although it's old news, looks like there will be a 1GB 9800m GTS with Sli. http://www.clevo.com.tw/en/products/prodinfo_2.asp?productid=19
any information about this new card or it just same as the 512MB 9800m GTS ?
what do you guys think about new GTS, it will beat the GT in price in a buck?
and OC in less heat compare GT?

memory size beyond 512 is not enough to push the performance bar at normal rsolutions.

9800 GTS can beat the 9800 GT when overclocked, and also price for the buck.

The card would need a 512-Bit Memory Bus to even use the 1 GB properly, it sounds like a marketing strategy to me. But it is nice to have variety, though it sounds like that Clevo is running out of 9800m GT's, since they discontinued it in the M860TU...

Not quite, please check the " 9800m GTS can beat the 8800 GTX or bollocks talk?" thread in the Gaming (Graphics Cards and Games) thread for more information.

Although, on bang for the buck, the GTS beats the GTX.

I really don't see any need for 1GB on the GTS card. I can understand the GTX, as it has the extra processing power to render those higher resolutions, but 1GB on the GTS is just marketing bull crap and completely useless.

im thinking they only phased out the 9800m gt to bring in the 9800m gt 1 gig. (speculation of course)

I don't think the speed of the 9800m GT would be able to keep up with 1gb of Vram...

Like I said, all marketing crap. I've seen 8500GT cards with 1GB of VRAM. The core and shaders just don't have the power to pump 1GB of textures through the card at the resolution required to fill the texture space and keep a decent frame rate up. Sure you can make it fill up the gig, but the actual performance compared to a 512mb model will be +- 1-2fps compared.

it aint keeping up with a 9800m gtx either but yet it's there...*LOL*
and 2 gigs of video memory (sli) would be a feat to behold...if you could use it all, but from my understanding...you can only use 1 gig off the first card or 512 off of each card (waiting for someone to truly explain this). which doesn't seem to be better than 2 512mb 256 bit cards which can use all the memory to it's full potential. (speculation of course)

Well 55nm would be worth upgrading to any day of the week... Lets hope for better names, I don't think anybody wants to go through the 8800 GTS 320/640/512 naming hell again.

Chicago (IL) – Nvidia will be dropping the 8000- and 9000-series names

Following a recent announcement that the company would lay off about 7% of its staff, it seems that Nvidia is busy bringing the company back on track. Rumor has it that the company will be announcing additional graphics cards in the GT200 series on October 15. Coinciding with the product launch, Nvidia is expected to depart from its sequence numbering system of the 8000- and 9000-series and transition to a system that is in line with the GT200 series.

Industry sources told TG Daily that while the 8000 series is being phased out, all 55 nm 9000-series GPUs will carry a G100-series name. By the end of 2008, Nvidia will be offering today’s 9000 series as G100, GT120, GT130, GT140 and GT150 models.

When the 2009 45 nm GPUs arrive, which seems to be the case around Q1 or Q2, Nvidia will have fully transitioned to the new branding structure: Enthusiast GPUs will be integrated into the GTX200-series, performance GPUs into the GT200-series, mainstream GPUs into the GS200-series and entry-level products into the G200-series.

The new branding should clear up some of the confusion in Nvidia’s product lineup today.
