Hey, I am anticipated a np5792 from xoticpc (props justin! - how many justin's are you?) any day now, and have been thinking about the tasks i want to get out of the way when i first receive it.
-it will have windows vista 64bit installed, and i am thinking about reformatting and re/installing vista on separate partition.
-then patches and updates for the hardware (anyone know things that i should def. update? bios? vista? 8800 drivers? camera? microphone/sound?)
-then customize vista and install useful programs as i see fit.. if anyone has the link to it handy, i wouldn't mind checking out that notebookreview forum listing of vista fixes/rec. changes, as well as the list of useful software.
haha, this is my first new computer in a looong time.. im excited about it.
would appreciate hearing other people's advice or what they do when they first get a new PC.
thanks!

well... im gonna boot the machine from a bart PE and check for dead pixel... and see if the processor overheat... if its ok ill install a XP32... with driver and stuff... bench the cpu and gpu at 100% see if the whole system is stable and do not overheat...
Than ill customise windows... make a ghost image on my server... install game... and ... and... go to work...
If something go wrong.. call my reseller, insult them, and get refund... and buy the same laptop somewhere else... yep im crazy -
There are 2 Justin`s at XoticPc, Justin Nolte, and the "newer one" , Justin Woitte. Both of them are A class fellas.
Things you should do? Well, considering you got the system from Xotic, it will be bloatware free, so the only thing you can do is set it on a solid surface, buy a keyboard and a mouse,so that the laptop one`s can stay as new as possible(I am using a logitech cordless desktop,so I only touch the laptop to turn it on,and pop open the lid,and close it/the lid. Also, make sure that the vents aren`t obstructed in any way,and that the laptop stay a bit raised(the back side) for better cooling. The M570RU is a very cool laptop ( my gpu idles at 45 and after a looong time of gaming goes to about 55-59 C. Maybe get some compressed air and some LCD cleaner for it when it will get dirty/dust in the vents.
Like all Sager 5790(1)(2), don`t be alarmed if the first time you push the button it won`t power off. Seems that sagers need a longer push, and after that, tada,a blue button will light up and fill you gaming heart with joy
Get updates for everything, especially GPU and OS .
That should take care of the basics. -
I got the same thing. Mine should arrive around christmas. I was just getting on here to ask the same question but it seems you guys already answered it. I'm defiantly doing a defrag and disk cleanup as well as install my antivirus/spyware/firewall software before I even setup my internet connection. Then I'll just download any new updates and drivers. Then install some software, import my firefox bookmarks and extensions, and then I'll be good to go. Can't wait to test out crysis on this thing.

hm, was expecting it to arrive today, but it didn't. sucks..
but gives me time to inquire about something else:
i've always heard that putting the OS on a separate drive or in a single-drive case, a different partition, helps the speed a lot. is this also true for vista x64 on a notebook?
might be a stupid question and if so im sorry for sweating you! haha. happy holidays, everyone. -
bump. !

Well if you move your pagefiles to another hard drive... yeah your computer will go faster... if your using it... but with 4gig of ram im not sure windows will use his pagefiles a lot
-
Install Quake and Doom and post screen caps and FPS... j/k
First thing I'd do if I were you would be to get your OS installed with all of the drivers, and IMMEDIATELY make a full backup of the machine. This way, you have a clean slate you can install from. If you have a backup drive (external USB HDD's work the best for me), use that.
NEW NOTEBOOK! (np5792) - things i should do?
