    Hello,

I recently received my NP8170. I have installedb all the drivers correctly, and activated the THX sound software. However, the sound quality is still horrible, especially when using headphones (the headphones are fine, I use them on my other laptop without any issues).

    Typical problems encountered include:

BF Bad Company 2: Dialogue EXTREMELY quiet when using headphone, fine without.
Left 4 Dead 2: Silenced weapons make unusual and bizarre noise when firing, issue is present both with and without headphones
Mass Effect 2: Issues with sound direction and surround (Incorrectly increases / decreases volume of near / distant sounds), both with and without headphones

My suspicions are that something is wrong with the drivers. Has anyone encountered similar issues or has any suggestions? I already tried clean driver install and tinkering around with various in-game and windows settings.

    Thanks,
    SK

Have you tried uninstalling the sound drivers and using windows' default drivers?

Try hitting the Fn key and the number 5 key to activate THX and the subwoofer (not the f5 key).

did you try dialogue plus from the THX software, the built in speakers are BS, w/0 the thx drivers and software its really bad! but after installing it, the sound is surprisingly awesome! I do however have a top of the line Altec Lansing 2.1 sys! I can the diff before and after the THX

Yes, I tried dialogue plus and played around with many of the THX settings.

If possible, can someone post a screen or list what they see under their audio drivers in system management? I think there might be something funky going on in there.
