Can you run raid 0 with one HDD connected to sata port 1 and the other to ODD port? The sata 0 will be used with Intel 510 SSD as primary drive.

The user manual only lists RAID usage on the primary and secondary HDD bays. You could try it, but I don't believe the functionality was extended to the ODD with that RAID controller.

Why not run bot the HDD's in the regular bays in RAID and try the SSD in the optical bay? You may not get SATA 6, but it should still work.

Thank you for the confirmation. rep+

I doubt the raid can be extend to ODD bay since there are two SATA controllers in p170hm. The reason I don't want to run SSD in ODD bay is for one I will be capped at 3gbps instead of 6. Also, I lose the ability to temporarily change to ODD drive without reinstall OS.

@psun786, you CAN run RAID 0 with one drive on port1 and the other on port2, which is originally used by ODD. Actually, what you want is exactly the same as what I have done. See my configuration.

This is very interesting. I thought u can't creat an array with HDDs from different controllers. If in fact all three SATA ports are linked to one controller, why one of them is SATA II while other two are SATA III?

When did you purchased ur np8170, is it before or after recall? I remember reading somewhere that Clevo misconfigured the SATA ports on early np 8170. Could this be the case?

I got it last month, so it should be after recall. So far the array works fine.
