    Hey all.

I was wondering if some NP8265 owners could help me troubleshoot something here. And perhaps we can help others who may have the same issue. Bonus points if you have 8265-S.
You also need 8.1, as this issue wasn't present for me in 8. I have 8.1 Pro, from a clean install from a 8.1 ISO that I downloaded from Microsoft on Nov 14th.

So, if you'd like to help, can you look at my thread on Eight forums:

    8.1 Pro idle CPU usage

And see if your 8265 exhibits the same thing?

After powering up with HDMI connected, I get 10-15% (sometimes up to 20%) CPU usage while idling, with Core 0 being utilized at about %90 constantly.

That is, UNTIL you put the laptop to sleep and wake it, disconnect and reconnect the HDMI, or disable/re-enable the 8970m from device manager.
Going slowly crazy trying to figure out what is going on here!

Thanks in advance for any helpers!

Bump cause I found out it has to do with HDMI... still can't figure out why it is doing this though.

Hello I don't have Windows 8.1 Bur after reading about many incidents on Google it seems to a 8.1 issue. It might have something to do with your integrated gpus drivers. i have heard some people uninstalling and trying a new driver fixing it. Do you immediately get audio when you plug the hdmi in?

Don't know you can try some of the solutions in this thread good luck: No HDMI sound after Windows 8.1 update - HP Support Forum - 3029865

I tried plugging it into my TV via HDMI.. no problems, I got audio and video right away, and also when I booted it up with the TV plugged... no CPU usage issue!!!

So I guess it is my monitor.. or the HDMI to DVI cable I use to connect my monitor (HDMI end at the laptop, DVI at the monitor).

Not sure what it is, I do know that when I plug in my computer(Windows 7) to my TV, I don't get audio sometimes and have to unplug and replug it in. It might be something with the way windows handles hdmi video/audio or your drivers but you could try what other people have suggested on that forum and try opening the settings and clicking default when the hdmi is plugged in.

    Incase anyone's interested,

this was determined to be a problem with the Intel graphics driver. Sager has told me to hang tight until a new driver is released.

    So there ya go!

    Hey all,

sorry to revive this old thread, but for anyone having this problem, there is a new Intel GPU driver available from Windows that isn't up on the Intel site yet. Go device manager, expand Display Adapters, right click the Intel GPU and "update driver software." Update from the internet.

This latest WDDM driver cures this issue as soon as you install it!

    ...and the peasants rejoiced :D
