OK i have the 1680*1050 glossy display. My problem is at the lower right hand 4th of my scrren there is a zigzage spot that look slightly brighter then the rest of the screen. I was thinking it could be a dead pixel but it still shows the color of the screen on that spot it just appears brighter. I have the basic warrenty from Xoticpc.com. What should I do?
-
If it's just one pixel, your may be out of luck. Most manufacturers' warranties specify something like "There must be >15 dead/bright pixels overall, or >3 within a 1.5cmx1.5cm area"
Not sure about your Xoticpc warranty. Check the documentation that came with it, or call up tech support and ask them.
Good luck, mate. -
how can u tell how many pixels it is? the spot is relatively big.
-
Erm, alright, are we talking bigger than one millimetre across?
-
its a 1cm by 1 cm squiggly line. Basically a 1cm by 1 cm S on the bottom right side of my screen
-
Call your tech support and arrange a return. That's not acceptable for a new product, and you shouldn't have ay problems
-
ok thanks for the help

These arent the best pics because all I have is my cell phone camera. -
The pictures are really not clear but if the problem is that big, you should get a repair. I don't think they are supposed to send you a box (you should use the box in which you received the laptop). Basically, just send the laptop without the cable...battery maybe?
-
what about hdd? I have personal stuff on it? would it make a difference if i sent it in with a different hdd?
-
You should ask to be sure. Normally, you should make a backup of the data just to be safe. There's a recent story about repairs: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=349974.

i can see it. i would for sure get a repair. that type of spot usually only gets worse. they are not bad pixels.
-
I've always sent in laptops for repair hard-drive less. I don't really want anyone accessing personal data nor do I want the HD to fail in transit.
-
But I just wonder...if you remove the hard drive, how will they test the computer to check if it's working properly? They'll put another hard drive in? Or they just don't test it at all (i.e. turn it on)?
NP 8660 screen problem!
