It's weird. it's happened on the laptop before this one too(Gateway P-7805u) Only happens in FF, not IE. Before replying, here are things I already did:
-Have the videos always show in hq/hd in playback options
-Make sure the videos I watched are supposed to have hq/hd buttons
-Try typing &fmt=18/22 in the address bar
-Have latest version of flash player
I apologize if I'm posting in an inappropriate forum. I already inquired mozilla-related forums and received no replies.

I do not have that issue.
some videos have HD and some dont, depends on the source video that is uploaded to youtube.
Example: here is a short HD video I uploaded (do you see the HD button)?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9xBKvmfbBWw
if not, then are you running something that is blocking that feature. -
Nope. I don't see the button.
Now, only if I knew how to find what's causing this... -
you really have to get the latest version of the Flash player (for your browser) to get the HD support.
-
WT..? You were right! But I swear I downloaded the latest version from adobe right after installing XP.
Thanks. I feel like an idiot...again.
