    Hi there,

After waiting for an extremely long time for stuff to arrive, I'm finally ready to upgrade the cpu in my NP8662. I'm a bit nervous. All I have for reference are a few cpu install videos on other laptops. Are there any precautions or steps I should take?

I will be installing a Q9100. I will be using the Shin Etsu thermal grease that HP gave me. Do I just apply the paste on CPU only? What tests should I run after to make sure everything is running properly?

    Thank you

-Try this, it's the service manual:

    http://web.eurocom.com/EC/data/m196_2.pdf

Walks you through almost everything you can on the laptop. (With pictures!! :D)

-As far as thermal paste goes, youtube has countless videos on how to apply thermal paste. Everyone has there own idea about how to apply it.

I think other people will be more qualified for your other questions.

That would be P8400. The Q9100 should be a huge jump? I have read that you should do cpu stress test after installing. I just can't seem to find the name of the software.

    Thank you

I'm stuck! How do I put the heatsink in? The narrow space between the fan, I slide the heatsink base in and just pull down the arms? It feels like I would break something..Also, do I apply thermal to heatsink also?

I needed to remove the fan, It fits in now.

Edit : I knew I was going to mess something up! I installed the CPU, put new memory in. I try to power it up and nothing happens. Nothing on the lcd. No beeps or sounds or anything. Could it be the ram? It's DDR3 1333 - hxxp://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820226025&cm_re=4gb_ddr3_1333-_-20-226-025-_-Product

Did I just ruin my 8662?

    Thank you
