This model seems to be popular in discussions... and I'm thinking of purchasing it. The problem is, I know nothing about computers. I was checking out the options for specs on their website, and I have no clue on what options will be worth the money. Link: http://www.sagernotebook.com/product_customed.php?pid=160092&action=customize

My budget is around $2000, what would you guys recommend upgrading?

And is there another retailer you guys can recommend or is buying from them directly the best way to go?

    Thanks for any assistance.

The new Intel processors will be out in a little over a week. Wait until then, and we'll get you squared away properly.

Where are you getting that information from? (Also looking to pull the trigger on a new laptop soon)

I was unaware of this as well. Guess I'll wait a week, if it's going to be worth it.

Even the minimal options in the customization are still considered high end. So you can't go wrong, I personally wouldn't wait for the processors just for the same reason you don't buy a new car right when it comes out or new phone, it takes time to work out the bugs and make it work right.

Alright thanks. I'm not in a hurry, so I can wait a bit to get this.

Oh no, I didn't mean that I'll wait because I want the new processors - I just figure that the ones for sale now will be cheaper when the new ones are being offered.

There aren't any "bugs" to worry about when you're talking about these processors. They don't work that way.

The other ones won't get cheaper, as they're simply being replaced.

Okay, but is it worth it to wait for these new pieces to be unveiled? Will it make much of a difference in performance? I'd like to get my NP8662 by early-to-mid-June, if possible - does anyone know how long they're taking to come after being ordered at this time? I heard that they've hit a bump with production and will be rolling out more in early June - I sure hope that I don't have to wait too, too long to get mine!

Oh I see... I thought by new you were talking about unseem models. Something like QX9500, but nevermind.

So have the new processors come out yet? I checked their website and haven't noticed anything about it.

Ive heard that the processors are out and that if you have ordered within this week or so your processor will be upgraded for free from xoticpc. They said that they will have the processors upgrade option shown on xoticpc in a week or so.

With a $2000 budget, you can get the specs in my signature with a 3 year parts and labor warranty. If you don't feel you need the upgraded warranty, then you can upgrade other parts - such as adding a Blu-ray drive while still staying under $2000. It was like $2030 with shipping. So, I would recommend the specs in my signature with either the P9600 (or P9700 when that launches) or the Q9000 - depending if you want a lower TDP and higher clock speed or two more cores.

And if you don't need the OS (like if you were just going to be using the 64-bit version of the Windows 7 RC for now), then you save a bit more and put it into something else directly in the laptop or save the extra cash for getting a notebook cooler or something else.

But I would definitely go with the 4 GB of RAM and 64-bit OS. And at least the 320GB 7200 RPM HDD.

    Thanks.

Are the coolers offered by XoticPC good for this notebook? I've read about slight heat problems coming from the hd, so I was thinking about getting the regular sized cooler to compensate for it. Or I could purchase an ssd... but the ones offered on the site seem a bit pricey.

And I can upgrade my warranty later right? I'm not so sure I need a full 3 years for parts at the moment.
