    Hi,

I am having temperature issues with my 7700k 1080 combo so I need to tear down the laptop. I was thinking since I will already be in there why not update some parts? I contacted Sager support and they said that a motherboard upgrade is not an option. Looking at the latest 775 clevos I don't see much difference in the motherboard or at least not enough to not be able to do it.

So are they right or is it possible to put a 370/390 motherboard in along with updated heat sink and cpu\gpu upgrade or even just cpu upgrade? if it is possible where do I source the parts?

I am sure some are asking why? it is already pretty solid build why more? I am a game\simulation engine developer and my desktop is 8086k and dual Titan RTX so my laptop is looking like a slouch next to that. I have also found that the 2080 was not a huge gain in most cases a ms here and there but with certain features i saw upward of 12ms gains with the card so that makes me have a reason for it. I try my best to keep my laptop and desktop in step but this time my laptop is in good shape overall and I like it so I don't really want to replace it if I can just do minor(major) upgrades for less. I would then do a full replacement when next GPU series comes.

Thanks in advance for any advice!!!

You don't *need* a motherboard upgrade or Z370/Z390 to run 8 or 9 series CPUs but the bios mods are custom and unofficial and warranty-voiding which is why Sager say its nothing they know about or want to know about.

9900k will definitely thermal throttle and not reach its very high 4.7 all core turbo on your heatsink, without serious efforts to improve the cooling. 8700K and 9700K less so. Look for results from those who've done the upgrade in your model (P775DM2 / P775DM3)

Sell it and upgrade to the latest one, get a warranty and everything sorted.

That upgrade (z370+gtx1080) was tested on a p775dm3 few months ago, that's possible.
