Hello to all!
I am new to this forum and very impressed by all of the knowledge which is spread around here! (seriously)
The next notebook which i will order in the next few days will be the NP9261, my only problem are all the retailers selling it.......
Primarily I am looking for a Brand with a good name and support, so even after 2 years I can get some help if needed.
So which Brand should I choose here? Sager? Xotic?.............
Thanks in advance
-
This is how it works,
The company behind all brands is Clevo and the model is d901c (check their website). Clevo is the Maker.
For intance if you are buying the NP9261 you are buying a Sager. That is, Sager is the brand (Clevo distributor) while Xotic is a shop (Sager NP9261 = Clevo D901C). You can also buy directely to Sager but I've heard they don't follow customer issues that effectively as in the shops.
It all depends were you live. If you are in Canada Eurocom seams to be excelent. They are a Canadian brand (Clevo distributor) providing excelent service. They don't seam to have any shops around (they sell directely and ship internationally)
If are in the USA there are several brands (Distributors), Sager, PC-Microworks etc etc. Xotic and Powernotbooks are Sager shops that seams to offer the best service, both before and after sales. I've heard excelent things about PC-Microworks on the topic of service too.
If you are in Australia then Pionneer is your shop. I've heard both good and bad about this one, but if you are in Australia are you buying anywhere else?
If you live in Portugal/Europe you have WebServInfor, they dont rebrand the Clevo's. The service is ok but could be better as it can get slow due to distribution issues and low stocks. Apart from that excelent! This is where I bought mine.
All the ones I mentioned they will be here in two years and more.
The key for good support service is actually in choosing a good Distributor (one with large stocks) and Shop (one that understands the technology and folllows up issues efficiently) while not overseeing location. The original Make/Brand is Clevo but they don't provide support directly to end clients.
Also you need to understand that these kind of machines are targeted to a niche market (they are not mainstream). Having said this, waiting one week, two week and a month is common for the goods to arrive is common (not many of them are built in each batch). It is not altought common to wait more then two weeks for a problem to get fixed (2 weeks worst case). So if you are waiting for faster response times choose another lappy. It is like buying a Ferrari, you pay premium, go to a waiting list and when something goes wrong you need to wait a wee bit longer then mainstream brands.
Hope it helps.

PS: All these I've learned by hanging around here since March. It was a wee bit confusing for me too. Hopefully this info will be a shortcut for you. Not everything came to me until August. I know I'm slow -
Actually I am from Germany.
My first thought was to order a Notebook from the USA, but now that you mentioned some shops in Europe......
Is the only one in Portugal or are there also some other ones? -
It is the only one in Portugal as far as I know. I don't know the distributor used by them.
I've found another one in Europe, this one is actually a distributor: http://www.ahtec.net/
A couple of weeks ago they had the d901c available for configuration in their spanish site. Since then they redesigned the site and is not there anymore. Just given them a call and find out. They seam to be in Spain, Netherlands and Belgium as both Spanish and Dutch languages are supported.
WebServInfor can be found: http://webservinfor.com/php/product_info.php?cPath=44&products_id=741
WebServInfor is a good shop considering what I've said. The only barrier for them and you might be the language. I don't know if they speak english that wellGive them a call and say that one of their customers Mr. Nuno Lopes mentioned the shop and see what happens.
One important thing to ask is if the Garantee covers Shipping Costs. This is very important. I know that Eurocom does this.

PS: Considering location, ahtec seam to be a wee bit better for you if they still sell the monster. -
check this guys /www.deviltech.de they are closer to your area.
-
There is nothing like asking in this forum
I would go for that one

Thanks odessa........deviltech seems to be very promising!
Is there maybe any other possibility? Otherwise I will order there, I suppose.... -

You can check the Clevo Guide for a larger list of resellers.

But the are still offering the "old" 9260 (1066 FSB)which doesn't support the E6750 and E6850 and reportedly has issues with Quad core processors.
So wait until they offer the "new" 9261 (1300FSB) -
I found out another one: www.cyber-systems.de
They seem to fit......got also the new 1333Mhz CPU's
They will also put me in 7,200rpm HDD's
What do you think about them? -
-
My fault!!
Here the correct page:
http://www.cyber-system.de/home.php -
Be aware, the site mentions a 1066 FSB. This corresponds with the "old" 9260, not with the new 9261 which has a 1333 FSB. Besides that, the price in Euro's equals that in Dollars. So they are very expensive!
-
Howcome it says 1066FSB on the Quad Cores and 1333 FSB on the DUO?
And yes, they do seem very expensive. -
I hate that I live in Denmark. I am quite sure I have found a buyer for my XPS M170 and was about to order the XPS M1730 when I heard about the Clevo. At the moment it seems rather diifficult to get one with 1333FSB in Europe.

Ok, heres a question related to this matter:
I was planning on buying a Sager NP9261 through XOTIC. They offer their warranty or you can buy Sager's warranty through them. If anybody knows which warranty will be more beneficial please let me know!
Also, how is the build quality on the laptops? I'm just worried about the screen on them, because unless you fork out $200 for one year on their 0 dead pixel policy. I guess their 5 dead pixel policy works good too, especially because they will replace/repair it if any are dead in the center of the screen. I just hate how their warranty doesn't include everything on the laptop working at 100% for the duration you purchase. -
Just order it from the States, the world is getting smaller and the dollar very much cheaper -
I am very close to ordering from America. It is just unclear to me what I need to do in case of hardware failure or if some other component needs to be replaced. Do I need to ship the notebook to the states or can they send the parts directly as long as it is under warranty.

Have you called them already? Have you stated you would like d901c with the revised motherboard and according to the specs listed in Clevo site?
Here are the specs according to clevo: http://www.clevo.com.tw/en/products/prodinfo_2.asp?productid=19
Just give them a call!! Why would you buy something across the world when you can buy it at home! It doesn't make much sense to me, especially when support is concerned.
All the configuration options point to the new motherboard!
http://www.cyber-system.de/product.php?productid=128&exp_showoptions=1
I agree there is an image that does not fit the picture in the product page (1066FSB). Just ask them what is that all about.
I agree that it seams expensive thought! So ask them why.
I don't know how things are in your country but in my considering import taxes if I ordered a d901c with quad core and 2x250GB in raid 0 and SLI, I would pay as much for DELL XPS1730 fully configured with maximum components (except for SSD) from France. And I live in Portugal where I can buy the d900c locally +-700 Euros cheaper then that.
Hey, but that is you money and your support.
Trance
PS: I would only order from abroad if I had no options. Not becouse I don't trust America but becouse in case of technical problems it is much easier to deal with it locally and less expensive. Would you in America buy something from Europe that you could get locally? It is just common sense. -
You are quite right, DFTrance. Import taxes is an issue I didn't concider. I will give both Cyber-system & Deviltech a call and ask about the system.

According to my information the 9261 comes with a revised motherboard with FSB1333. Read here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=171202
And here: http://www.xoticpc.com/product_info.php?products_id=1932
If the chipset supports FSB1333 then I don't see why downclocking would happen. -
it uses the same chipset as the 9620 but i could be wrong. i'll make a seperate thread asking for the question as i think alot of people are confused on this.
