Howdy folks.
My machine is still running strong, but I came across some free ram DDR3 2x8GB 1600Mhz.
This would double what I have in there now ( DDR3 2x4GB 1333Mhz) and would be handy for running VM's.

. . . suggests that 2 of the RAM slots are " . . . are not in compliance with the standard." and the other 2 are. If that is the case, does anyone know which 2 are in compliance and which 2 are not.
NOTE: The Thread this came from is closed so I couldn't post it there. The choices are the two slots located under the Keyboard, and the other two are easily accessible via the bottom cover.
& the CPU I am running is the 2720QM which according to that same thread should support 1600Mhz.
I guess the other question is whether or not each slot will run with 8GB's in each.
I don't know if 8Gb sticks were around at the time this machine came out.
I wouldn't think so but I have to ask - could any harm come from putting an 8GB stick in a slot that had never tested anything more than 4GB's before?
Thanks for the help!

hey there,
8GB sticks run just fine on the P150HM, i myself had 2x8GB running at up to DDR3-2200 in there(overclocked from 2133). just beware that when u add the 1600 sticks to your current 1333 modules, the new sticks will automatically downclock to DDR3-1333, since they always adjust to the slowest stick in the system.
as for the certification, that just means that there is no warranty for what speeds you can achieve when running four sticks in the HM. but that is always the case once you run higher ram clocks than the officially certified ones from Intel.
potential issues here might be:
- CPU integrated memory controller cannot handle the speeds (that is very seldom the case, plus you can avoid that by overvolting the system agent, as well as i/o and sometimes cache)
- motherboard cant handle the higher ram speeds (thats the certification thing that was talked about in the thread, if the traces from two slots are too long in distance to the cpu, higher ram clocks might be unstable)
- RAM incompatibility (either by mixing different brands and speeds or because some sticks just wont run in specific systems)
in the end, the only thing u can do is just try it and see if it worksi for one am optimistic in your case, but dont forget: the resulting 24 GB of RAM will be running at 1333 Mhz! unless u just swap out the current 2x4GB DDR3-1333 with the new 2x8GB DDR3-1600 modules.

jaybee83 is right there on the speeds and, well, everything.
Just try to put them in the bottom slots that are easier to access. Turn it on and try it out. Wouldn't worry about the other slots under the keyboard, unless you really needed to. -

You can run 8GB x 4 without any issues here. Stay within the 1600 speed, though (we've seen higher rated RAM cause instability when the CPU is designed for it).

More RAM is always better lol.. I needed more RAM so used a 8GB stick along with a 4GB one which I had from somewhere...

Lots of RAM and you can create yourself a nice little RAM drive/disk.

Thanks Everyone for the comments.
I replaced the 2 x 4Gb @ 1333Mhz sticks under the bottom cover with the 2 x 8Gb @ 1600Mhz sticks and she's working perfectly!
Thanks again for all the comments.jaybee83 likes this. -

Enjoy your larger amount of faster memory then
keep the 4 gig modules in case you ever need more ram.
