Hello all,
I've been debating between getting several different laptops (XPS1530, Asus F8SV-B1 and Sager NP2090) and I think I've made my mind up on the NP2090. However I have several outstanding questions that I cannot answer despite thorough research:
(1) What are the official physical specs on the 2090 (size and weight)? There have been several different claims.
(2) Does the 8600 GT have GDDR3 or DDR2 ram? Different threads say different things and I have not found an up-to-date answer.
(3) What is the best (cheapest) place to pick one of these up?
(4) Can someone point me in the direction of specific benchmarks? For example, 3dmark 06 at specific resolutions?
Thank you in advance.

1. The barebone itself is about 6.38 pounds without CPU, RAM, HDD, Optical Drive.
2. 8600GT with GDDR2 512MB as Factory Default
3. Zipzoomfly.com has 2 choices (WXGA+ 1440 x 900 or WSXGA+ 1680 x 1050)
4. This I don't know. But one thing I do know is that the overall gaming performance is great and smooth. -
I can't give very good specifics on your questions, just my opinions as an owner...but I wouldn't get the 1530 right now as the only res is 1280x800 unless that is what you perfer. I wanted more desktop and don't care about running games at native so i got the 2090 with the 1690x1050 matte.
1) I have the 2090 and the size is 14" x 10.1" x 1.5" roughly.
2) Supposedly the 1530('don't quote me on this, but i am pretty sure, based on the dell threads and some synthetic benchmarks') and ASUS GS1, not the one you have listed...(isn't that the ferrari version?) only have the GDDR3 in the 8600GT, whereas the 2090 has GDDR2, at least that's what the majority thinks. Different readings have been obtained with rvtuner but sometimes it is not reliable.
3) I think synthetic benchmarks are way to over-rated...and have not done any on my 2090...search around though as they are everywhere....oh ya and i am very happy with the 160.09 drivers.
Good luck buying and if you go with the sager or asus I recommend xoticpc! -
Thank you guys for the answers. Unfortunately, this is a very tough decision for a number of reasons. Specifically, I like the XPS 1530 a lot, but the screen is just terrible. This is enough to make me buy the Sager (which I've heard is very good, my brother has been using his for nearly three years now) but it is quite a bit more expensive than the Dell.
I'd buy the Dell if it had a better screen or the Sager if I could get it for $1400 shipped with my specifications (T7500, 250GB HD, 2GB Ram, 1600 x 1050 screen). If the NP2090 had GDDR3, I'd probably just lift the offer and get it at $1600. Oh the dilemma. -
you really outta just buy it with a 1gig stick and get a 2gig at newegg if you are going to run 32bit or 2x2gig for 64bit regardless of what you buy. I got 2x2gig for $80 about 2weeks ago...it's transcend but it came with no issues and a lifetime warrenty

i also have been looking at both the np2090 and the xps1530. running into the same exact problem. How is the build of the np2090, it looks more professional then the xps1530. and what about heat output. will be lugging my laptop form home to work and other places. was about ready to pull the trigger on the dell xps1530 but had second thoughts, people seem to like their 2090's better then dell products

It has a slight warm sensation under the left hand, nothing noticable unless I think about it, i guess that is where the hd is. Other than that I am very impressed with the build and total heat output. I sat in the bead with it on my lap for ~3 hours lastnight and was not at any discomfort. When I use it at the desk I have a Zalman cooler that just rocks, the main fan hardly ever turns on

whenever i play some resource intensive game, mine tends to get really (annoyingly) hot under my left palm. the under side gets really hot too. but in normal everyday use the heat output is low.
