I've downloaded RivaTuner to monitor the temperature of my laptop - and even when it's idle the core temperature is showing up as 65 degrees. I thought that seemed a little high - should I be worried? Is there anything I can do to lower it? I don't have a cooling pad for it, but I've been using it on a flat surface.

According to the reviews I've read on the NP2090, average temperature when idle is ranging between about 57 and 63 degress Celcius, so 65 degrees would seem normal. Gaming temperatures ranged into the 70s. My guess would be that you have nothing to worry about. If the system isn't shutting itself off automatically, you're not getting artifacting or glitching in 3D games or apps, and the fans aren't constantly running to try to compensate for the heat, you should be operating at a normal temperature as far as the computer is concerned.

Make sure Powermizer is active, if you're using modded drivers search for the ones that enable that feature. Without powermizer your GPU is constantly running at 400/475Mhz. My GPU is on 168/100Mhz when idle or no 3D used, that brings temperature down between 58°C and 61°C.
NP2090 temps - too hot?
