    Hi folks, :)

I have a problem and before I make a mess of things I wanted to run it by you guys ...

I just tried playing my "Crossroads Eric Clapton Guitar Festival 2007" dvd on my new Sager NP2092 Laptop that comes with Cyberlink Power DVD Suite 5.0 and I got the pop-up saying What Region?

Now, I did not want to set the darn Region without doing some checks and see if I can make it Region-Free.

Well as my luck has it this piece of crap "Mat-S-h-i-t-a DVD-RAM UJ-850S" with FirmWare 1.60 has Terrible reviews ... and it supposed to be a cheapy Panasonic/Matsuhsita/MatS-h-i-t-a product ... that are famous for having all kind of bugs.

Anyway, I also ran a test and I got this Pop up message

" Logical Unit Region Code has not been set! This can cause errors when trying to run this program (DVDD****). Would you like to set the Region Code now? "

Q1: Should I have said yes to set the Region Code (to 1 for North America)?

Q2: Does anyone know how to make this UJ-850S dvd player/burner Region Free? BTW, rpc1 has no cure for this!!!

Q3: Is this DVD unit 127mm or 128mm? I thought all the Regular Laptop Slim Players were 127mm!!!

Any of you folks that have this Drive ... do you have any Suggestions or tips ... besides getting me a new DVD player/burner.

    Thanks,

    G! :(

or you can get anydvd and run it while playing anything and it makes the drive region free. when done simply turn it off from your tray

other than that NOTHING can be done with that drive trust me i have them in 4 toshiba's imo they suck big time.. one of the worst ones ive ever had

    http://www.slysoft.com/en/anydvd.html for anydvd

remember though if you choose a region code you can only do this 5 times then the drives is basically locked to the last region code or junk altogether. personally i recc the samsung s082h instead takes like 2 min to install and i can send you the custom firmware for it..to enable all discs and ram discs and fastburn etc..

    Hi zfactor,

Darn ... are you telling me I just paid $1500 for a Sager NP2092 and I have to go and get me a new DVD Player that it is worth a dime!

Why is it nobody ***** and moan to these people may be they stop using crapware.

BTW, I see that you have JFL92 ... did you put the Samsung that you are recommending in it? Did you happen to look at different Brands and decided that the Samsung is the best choice!!!

I guess my 2092 is same as your JFL92 ... So, the s802h is the "Correct" fit for my 2092?

    Thanks for the heads up.

    G! :)

i installed the sammy.. i own the drive you have, a optiarc ( same as lite on drives they are not made by sony), a pioneer, a lite on, among others.. the samsung is the only drive with real aftermarket firmware support and the only one that will burn pretty much anything i throw at it with errors..

THERE IS NO FIRMWARE for the drive you have.. just so everyone knows it.. no offense gonwk but personally i hate those drives.

my compal were built by me as bare bones you save a lot that way if you know what parts you want to fit in there and how to put them together.

yes that drive will literally drop right in your system. one screw slide yours out swap the bracket to the new one and slide it back in replace screw literally that easy..

you will only read bad things about that drive trust me i have done my homework on the drive you have..

or as i said grab anydvd and run it while using the drive it removes all css, any copy protections and all region codes so you will not have to set a region code. its a driver that runs when you need it to and is AWESOME!! i use it along with clonedvd2 from the same company.. not to expensive.. but i assure you that you will still have issues with that drive with cheap media and cd text and trying to write disc at once with it.. it does not do a lot of things right

Zfactor ... no offense to me at all Because I have the Exact same Sentiment you have and I only had the darn unit for about only 1 week.

BTW, Xotic PC counts their 30 days money back guarantee from THEIR Ship Date ... go figure why their SHIP DATE ... it should be the DAY that I receive the darn Unit in my hand ... so basically I am getting screwed out of 4 days right there.

    Thanks,
    G! :)
