I got my NP2096 without an OS and installed XP Pro 32-bit. I used all the drivers and software for XP offered on the accompanying CD. The thing is everytime I boot up my NP2096 it takes a good 2 minutes to be able to get onto my wireless network after fully booting up and windows doesn't even show me as connected only the Intel software let's me know it is.
Another thing that seems slow is the "loading user settings" at boot which seems to just sit there. Any ideas? Thanks!

    defrag

use msconfig to configure startup preferences

use the bios to change HHD to boot first (without checking dvd drive)

for the wireless connection... ? ha

One possible reason for slow-downs is that you have a virus or malware/spyware. Download Spybot Search & Destroy and install and update it. Then restart your machine and keep pressing [F8] when it turns on to get to the boot menu. Select "Safe Mode without networking" and Windows will boot up with only minimal services/processes running (this prevents the malware/spyware/viruses from running). Then run Spybot and see if it finds anything.

    If that doesn't fix it . . .

Boot into regular Windows. Open up the task manager (Ctrl + Alt + Del) and go to the performance tab, then click down on the CPU column to sort the processes in descending order of CPU usage - see what is taking it up.

Is your hard drive activity light on when your machine is on?

This article is old but still relevant.

Thanks for the help guys. Actually what I ended up doing was removing Program DJ, Watch Dog, and WOW applications that came with my NP2096. I also deleted my networked drives that I was set to automatically connect to and now the thing boots right up.
