The specs on the clevo website say the 5160 only support up to 4GB at 1600MHz. The 5165 doesn't mention such a limitation. Yet, all the Clevo/Sager reseller websites allow you to configure a 5160 with a i7-2760/i7-28xx, and 1600MHz RAM.

Is it just a case of the documentation on the Clevo website being outdated? I notice that the specs on Clevo's site for both the 5160 and 5165 also don't mention support for CPU's higher than the i7-2820, but all the resellers seem to sell with i7-2860, so assuming the resellers are on the up-and-up about this, we know that Clevo's online documentation needs updating.

I already ordered the 5165 earlier today just to be on the safe side (I want to run the mem @1600MHz), but I have a feeling it may not have been necessary.

1600mhz should be fine or the current Corsair 1866mhz jedec profile should works as well, higher frequency ram would try to run at max speed, if not able to then run at a lower speed.

So you are confirming that 8GB of RAM can run at 1600MHz on the NP5160? And that the specs on the CLevo site that say only 4GB will run at 1600mhz are wrong?

Not sure what that table you pasted is. Is that just a list of parts you yourself know will work in the NP5160? If you don't mind me asking, how do you know that will work?
