Hey, just wondering if you guys currently owing the NP5790 / M570RU would provide us with comprehensive review of the screen as it relates to brightness, crispness, response, and the vividness etc. of the colours as this is really needed to cement my choice in buying this laptop, thanks alot (please feel free to post pics).

I did a print screen on my WUXGA screen, which is the glossy screen.
My comments are, it's absolutely amazing. Everything is crisp, clear, and the screen has a lot of space. Some people said that the DPI is too small to read but I got used to it in about 5 minutes, no worries. Here's a picture. It can't really describe the quality right now but you get an idea.

refer to gophn's ATI and Nvidia GPU temperature guide.

Nice screenshots!
But I think he is asking for comparisons on whether to go for a Matte or Glossy screen... I think it's better to take a photo of your screen with a camera and post the photo instead of posting screenshots because the screenshots would look the same in a matte or a glossy screen. Wouldn't it?

its very hard to get a good quality picture of the screen with a camera unfortunately, pics to come though!

I'll give it a shot. The only other LCD that I have to compare it to is my old 20" 1680x1050 desktop LCD: the Samsung 204BW, a 6-bit TN panel. It had pretty good image quality for a cheap LCD, and it got the job done.
Now, moving on to the 5790's screen, I have been quite impressed. I got the glossy WUXGA (1920x1200) panel. I've looked at several color gradient test images like this one, and have not seen any banding or noticeable "steps" in the color (unlike on my old desktop LCD).
As for the response time, I don't know the actual response time in milliseconds, but that number is largely worthless anyway since there's no standard way to report it, and most manufacturers test in a way to make their response time seem better than it may actually be. In any case, I play a lot of fast-paced first-person shooters, and I have not seen any ghosting at all.
As for the brightness and clarity, that's a bit more subjective, but I can say that I'm very pleased with the images that the monitor displays. Although it is extremely difficult to take good photos of a monitor, I tried my best. You really have to see it in person to get a good idea of how good it looks; the pictures don't do it justice at all:
- This is probably the closest you can get to what the screen looks like in real life.

GREAT THREAD!
I d love someone (ie. from XoticPC ^_^) to take a short clip with videocamera comparing those two displays before i decide which one to buy, (+245 is some money for a display) -
Hahah, screenshots to demonstrate screen quality, funniest thing I've heard this week.

I'm sold on the 1900x1200 now. Thanks to all who posted pics.

I don't have any pictures of the screen (yet) because I'm still trying to get some driver problems resolved.
As for my review, I can say that the glossy 1920x1200 screen looks very nice. It is sharp and clear, more clear than my 1024x720 or whatever that resolution screen is. What I like the most is how much damn space I have on my screen. It took me 5 minutes with a rest-stop in the middle to move my mouse from one corner to another.
Another plus on 1920x1200 is that it has awesome resolution, without a noticeable downside on gaming. You might lag down a bit if you try to run at native, but the great thing is that it's not visible if you turn down the resolution. I was playing Oblivion at 800x600 resolution, and I found it to be very sharp, not blurry at all. I didn't even realize I was playing at such a low resolution until I looked at my video settings. -
I'm really concerned about the Glossy screen reflections. I have to use my laptop in an office environment and there are windows/overhead lights that would cause serious reflections. All my previous laptops have been Matte. I love the 1920 resolution but the Glossy has me worried. Does anyone use Glossy in a bright environment? How well does it work?
Does anyone have the Matte screen? How does it look?
Also - I have read that the 1680 resolution isn't very good on XP. Why is this? Is there something about 1680 that isn't supported under XP very well? I currently use 1920 and have no issues. -
Lemme break it down for you all:
Matte: can't change to glossy. Still has a nice resolution, but isn't as fresh and crisp. Still good for games, etc, but not as great for movies. Even games don't look that great.
Glossy: can buy a protecter to change to matte. Has a great image. The lighting may piss you off at first, but reflection tends to disappear as you get used to it. Last night I was playing Oblivion while my lamp in the back of my room was on (I use those energy efficient lights so I don't feel bad if I leave it on for long periods of time) and I never once noticed the reflection. I sit on my bed, with the light where my head is, and the notebook on my lap. No reflection which I was aware of.
Hope that helps.
PS
The majority of people at my workplace have cubicles, which have a lot of lighting. Many of them have glossy screens on their computers. Put one and one twogether (pun intended). -
The conversion of glossy isnt my only thing but the price tag i want to know if it is worth the price seeing that the only available glossy screen now (check xoticpc.com) is 200+ so wat i wana know if its worth the price tag interms of performace and eye candy!
ps. (still waiting on matte review?) -
Well, if it helps, I can take some shots of my matte screen on my desktop...?
-
-
i just love matte over glossy... I think the matte vs glossy works like in photo print too....
Some people prefer to print their pictures in glossy because it ads a lot of eye candy, even to bad pictures. I personally prefer matte because i think it looks like it really is.... its like looking at a girl without makeup -
Ah, girls without makeup. That's how I like them. Then I can tell what they're really like. I hate all this fake stuff. Fake bras, fake bumbums, fake eyelashes, fake nails, all for what? In the end, SOMEONE's gonna find out, and they're still fake.
-
Wow computers and girls alike who could have`guessed. they all need upgrading, give tonnes of problems, hot internals lol any way matte review! lol -
tee hee. Poor females. They need someone on here to defend them.

you are one lucky guy hmmmmm wana hook me up lol -
back to the original topic, how much worse are the viewing angles and ghosting on the matte than on the glossy screen for the 5790?
thanks -
(And its cheaper than replacing a screen if you wind up hating it being matte.
Just FYI!
