I had a bridged connection with my wireless internet in my home and the LAN connected between my NP5790 and my xbox 360.

I went out and put the computer in hibernate and when I came back my Ethernet Adapter will not, whatever I do recognize that I have a network cable plugged in. Ive tried different cables and even trying plugging the computer directly into my cable modem the Realtek adapter will just not see that I have a ethernet cable plugged in.

Ive uninstalled and reinstalled the device, changed drivers and everything. I just don't know what to do. In device manager it is turned on.

    Any advice?

    HIbernation and networks = problems.

Do not hibernate or standby.... your network connections are usually screwed up after.

The easiest way to to just fully shutdown the notebook, then power it back on... rather than hibernating.

    rebooting didn't work i suppose?

try rebooting AFTER removing the cable
then, when windows is loaded, put it back in

Ive pretty much tried everything I can think of and whats in that thread including everything except 2 things.

By an external ethernet adapter what do you mean? Originally I had it plugged into the 360 and like I said when the computer came out of hibernate it just would not see a cable plugged in, but even trying to do it directly into the modem. it's not like its trying to connect but wont it will just not See that there is a cable plugged into the computer PERIOD.

And by a bootable OS? Can I use the Cd's for Vista that came with my system or are you talking about something else?

This is a picture of My ipconfig and I dont know why theres like 6 LAN connections but maybe itll help

Edit: I actually put the computer in Sleep and not Hibernate sooo does that really make difference?

why are you does a bridge connection???

    are you using a router?

And also look at the DNS... with the IPCONFIG /ALL

if it looks fishy... make sure that you are not using a static IP in the network connection settings.

when you change a network config... you need to do a cold reboot of the network peripherals.

    - turn off cable/dsl modem
    - turn off router
    - make sure all network cables are where they should be
    - wait for 20-30 secs then power on the modem first
-- wait for its lights to stop blinking (meaning that its done initializing)
    - then turn on the router

..... it should work after this.

Note: make sure your system's TCP/IP is set to "Obtain IP address automatically"

Ive done that about 5 times. Still nothing, it just wont recognize that a cable is plugged in. I know ive said that like 100 times but no matter what I do all I get is "A Network Cable is unplugged'

press F2 as the notebook is powered on, it will bring up the BIOS.

Inside will be options for most of the peripherals.

hmmm..... I am just not sure whats wrong at all.

So the Device Manager sees the ethernet adapter.... and the cable is not detected???

makes no sense unless if the ethernet adapter is disabled somewhere in the software settings.

Try to use a Live CD like Knoppix or Windows PE (Barts PE) to see if the internet works in the live OS's...if it does, then its your settings in your Windows.

you download it and burn it on a CD
then you boot your laptop from that CD, and BAM ... you've got a Linux running (without having to install it!)
then you can test if your internet works in Linux, to determine whether it's a hardware failure, or a software/windows problem :)

Here's some more help. Just follow the instructions on how to make a bootable cd with Knoppix using NERO and other softwares. Ive tried it and it works.

    Hope this helps, goodluck
