OK I am tired of reading all the IFL90 and NP2090 posts. Somebody start something on the NP5790!! How about we start our own Sager Coalition for the 5790 so I have something to read while waiting impatiently for mine to arrive. Any more news on the shipment date?

Placing my order today,
specs:
17" WUXGA
T7500
Go 7950GTX
4GB DDR2 667mhz
160gb 7200RPM
I have a question about the Display, the WUXGA has resolution of 1920x1200, would that be its native resolution, if so, does that mean the image quality will be worse if I were to set a lower resolutions? -
If you get a lower resolution, its not really worse.... its just less room to work with (desktop, windows, etc....)
The WUXGA is great for future proofing (1080p for games and movies) and for getting the maximum workspace available..... and gaming is great on it since you do not need to use AA if you run the games on the native 1920x1200 resolution. -
Now to the crux:
Long answer: With a CRT monitor, you can use pretty much any resolution and it will look fine. An LCD is different in that respect. It has a native resolution which is the physical amount of pixels it has to display. If you use a resolution outside of the native resolution, the monitor has to scale the image to fit the new size, which results in a blurry or fuzzy image. -
I think I'll be ill waiting for mine to come in.....
Really just a little update would be grand.....
Pretty please?
With sugar on it...... -
Hey Gophn, that made me feel better about getting the WUXGA. I was starting to wonder if I made the right choice.
-
Once you go Full HD (1080p), you dont go back.... I have felt that since I got my Clevo notebook w/ WUXGA in March 2006.
The resolution is just amazing to let me do more things on screen and the gaming is awesome. -
Well, yukon, you also have to consider two things:
1. The lower the resolution, the more frames per second you will get in games. But you'll want to turn anti-aliasing on.
2. Other than games, such as windows desktop environment and web browsing, fonts and such will be smaller. You can adjust font size and/or DPI, but not for everything. Some programs and some websites use fixed font sizes. -
with such a powerful card as a 7950GTX, any resolution LCD panel will not even phase the performance...noticeably anyway.
I have a 7800GTX w/ WUXGA... I game at high/max settings (at native 1920x1200)... all 40-60+ fps on 3D intensive games (Oblivion, C&C3, GRAW, etc...) -
That is some card yeah? Can't wait to learn about what the 8800m GTX can do all things considered.
-
im finally upgrading my laptop from this 5680....the 5790 looks illmatic....just waitin for the lappy's with fingerprint reader then gonna place my order
-
so when is it supposed to ship? i am leaning towards ordering this model, but if it doesn't get here before classes start i'll have to settle for something else.
-
the first batch is spose to be shipped out this week, im sure more are coming week after week.
Question: Any idea how good this lappy is on batteries (Surfing, msn'ing, word, etc...) without turning anything down? -
I just ordered mine.
17" WUXGA+ Glossy
T7300 Core 2 Duo 2.0ghz 4MB L2
512 MB Go 7950 GTX
2 GB Ram (Second stick waiting at home to be installed)
160 GB 7200 RPM HD
3 year warranty
I'll be tossing XP on it for now until I get my Vista Ultimate package in the mail -
Pre-ordered July 1st.. I can't wait any longer
17" WUXGA (1920 x 1200)
T7700 2.4ghz
4gbs of RAM
GeForce Go 7950 GTX w/512MB
160g/b 7200rpm
Vista Premium
Microsoft office 2007 Basic -
Ok... now I am getting jealous.
My 7800GTX may still hold its own in the mobile gaming market... but I have been craving for more power... but the cost of the 7950GTX is like $500-ish... yikes.
Is a 20-25% performance increase, worth $500??? .... probably not since I am a poor college student.
At least my card still performs well compared to the new DX10 cards (up to the 8600M GT). -

Has there been any word on Blu-ray/HD Drives for this laptop?
I understand that the optical drive is upgradeable, I was curious which drives should be considered. -
Most of the Clevo notebooks have standard optical drive bays.
So you can use any of the available mobile Blu-Ray or HD-DVD drives in this notebook.
You have to special order them from the vendor/reseller if you want one of the drives. They are not going to be standard options on the website usually because of their cost. -
For those trying to save a little $$, I'd recommend:
- Buy XP with it (Vista, whatever verison you want, will come down with price)
- RAM is upgradeable, start with the lowest amount
- Smallest HDD you can stand (of course, 7,200 RPM) since it also can be upgraded for cheap down the road
- The GPU is, from what I read, is upgradable. The 7950 > all 8 series as of now. -
I ordered mine on June 17th
I'm probably one of the few that got WSXGA+
I figure I can always hook it up to an external monitor and will get good frame rates after 4 years at university without having to go lower than native resolution -
When will it ship with Nvidia 8700?
-
from what justin says, late july to early august
-
i dont know what to do.... should i go with the 7950 and then replace it with then 8800 (when it comes out), or should i just wait for something better than the 7950 with DX10?
-
I think 7950 will last you probably for another year or two because not all games are going to only support directX 10 they will support 9 and 10
-
Very true. Not only that, but replacing the card with 8800m GTX will probably cost $350 - $500US. Could be less.
But I'm going to wait until at least October. They might have the fingerprint scanner and TPM by then. Or at least news of it coming out anyway. Not to mention firmer news of Vista SP1 should come out around then. -
, so I can't stand WUXGA on such a tiny screen (compared to desktops, where WUXGA is reserved for 24" monitors).
Pre-ordered mine (specs below) from XoticPC on June 23, hopefully it will ship soon! -
I thought about the WSXGA but with the $100 discount on the Special Pre-Order Package with the WUXGA I figured I might as well go for it. It ended up being the same price. And, From reading the Asus forums I guess most of the Asus G2S-A1 owners love their 1920X1200 screens.
-
what is TPM? -

I wonder how the bag is that im guessing we get for free with the 5790 is. -
Somebody just wake me up when they've shipped. Maybe if I just sleep for a few days the UPS guy will be here. Too bad I have to work.
-
-
Yeah i preordered my 5790 on the 21st of June from Xoticpc.
I've heard that its only this week that Sager has shipped the first batch to the retailers (Xoticpc, powernotebooks, rjtech, etc). It will take some more time for the retailers to actually assemble the notebooks and then of course to ship them out. This is what I understand so far.
anxiously awaiting... -_-; -
That's the rub isn' it?
So long as Clevo offers the 8800M as an option. Then it's merely a "part."
And we would hope that when the 8800M debuts, it does so without need of thermal or electical(watt) modification for Clevo's proprietary MXM IV slot in the 5790RU. Nvidia is rumored to be designing the mobile version of the 8800GTX to consume 22w. That falls within the specs of Clevo's MXM IV slot electrical specs.
So I don't see a problem. -
It doesnt make sense that they would create a new MXM spec for the Santa Rosa...but who knows. We can only speculate at this point.
-
Oh I see.. If it turns out that will work, I like options.
I think ill switch over to this laptop instead of the np2090. -
I find that with computer purchases, esp. laptops, if you wait for the latest technology to come out (since you only want the best, of course), you'll be waiting forever because there will always be something better and faster on the horizon. And your apetite for the bestest and fastest will never be sated as you sit on the sideline waiting for that ultimate system.
That's the rub, ain't it? -
Not when you know what's coming out in the immediate future.
It's one thing when one was buying a laptop with the 7950GTX late last year or even this past spring. But now that you know Nvidia is coming out with a DX10 card to replace the 7950GTX, why not wait? -
Yaaa.....NP5790 coalition....!!!!!!....but I look at other's specs and feel bad...
1.80 GHz / 1GB RAM / 7950 GTX / and my chill pad
But I'll pimp this bad boy out some time later on...when I'll need to... -
is this laptop compatible with merome CPU? i have a 2.0 merome can I put it on this one?

Mine recently reached "Phase 3 (Sent to Production)".
