I regret this is the third time I'm asking this question, but I need to establish that the 'matte' WSXGA+ screen is not overly grainy. I am querying this because some folk have an issue with the NP2090. The NP5791 will be my first laptop, and I have to order two at that. I would really appreciate your comments on the quality of this screen and why you favour it. Many thanks!

actually id like to know the same answer i am now considering this system and am not sure i want to spend what they want for the screen upgrades

For the NP2090, I don't think the WSXGA+ screen is grainy. The colors are vibrant and consistent. It is a bit "greasy", but all matte screens are because of the nature of the anti-reflective screen that makes a matte screen matte.

Thanks for reiterating your valuable sentiments, Syntax Error. It's also good to hear that the colour is commendable. I assume the NP5791 screen quality will be pretty much the same.

Are there any other matte WSXGA+ fans out there?

man thats a tough one for me since i like the wsxga on a 15.4" myself.. so i would imagine i would pick the wuxga but after my dell hell experience i think i am almost positive id take a matte finish over glossy if i had the optiion.. i just wish i could bring myself to buy this system ... this is probably my top pick to date i just dont know if i can spend this much on a system right now.. arghhhh im so torn.. good luck.. but i do agree id take a matte over glossy if i had the choice

I ordered mine just a week before they stopped selling it.

does anyone know the refresh rate of those screens and are they adjustable?
-

where will you be using the screen that could make a huge difference in which one you get if it will be outside get the matte one..

I notice that Donald Stratton of PowerNotebooks.com is a proponent of matte screens: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=132881
So far as resolution is concerned, compare the photos at http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=26696&highlight=WUXGA+reflection Despite being lower than WUXGA, WSXGA+ still has the advantage over a 19" CRT at 1360x1024. Factor in colour accuracy, increased legibility, a non-reflective surface, reduced eye-strain, higher fps, slightly longer battery life and the fact that WUXGA costs as much as an external Viewsonic, and you have a pretty strong case for choosing matte.
Cheers
NP5791 *Matte* WSXGA - all those in favour...
