whoa... sweet. way to go justin! its pretty amazing that the community here was able to effect some kind of change... i'm impressed. =) cheers to NBR too!
-
e....correct me if i'm wrong, with full fans comes also quite laut noise, is that what we want?
-
MMmmm yeah thats good ... so i have to call eurocom for that or i can do it at home?

PLEASE don't shoot the messenger, but this firmware will only allow you to turn your fans on to full speed...it will not allow you to lower the temperature at which they turn on or otherwise control the fan function beyond putting them to full speed.

This is a Sager release, you would need to call eurocom to check if they are going to provide it.
-
What would be nice to have is a mode where CPU would be slowed down (using SpeedStep) and the GPU would be underclocked and undervolted, so that less heat would be generated and fans would not have to come on or would operate at lower speed. This would of course reduce the speed of the laptop, but this mode would work fine for browsing or general office work. -
yay, about time.... I knew Clevo would do something about this.
Fan Toggles for ALL!!!
FYI: The Fan Toggle will help the noise, in the sense that it will become constant and not annoying (by coming on and off)... as well as help prevent overheating. As it should be for a gaming notebook.
I have my Fan Speed at max during classes, work, or in the library... it is not bothersome to anyone around... since it just becomes apart of the background (by being constant).
Thanks for the info Justin. -

Gophn makes excellent points.
Also, if the fans, when not set to always on, were to come on at a higher temperature then the complaints would shift to the palm rest getting too warm. There just is not a perfect balance that suits everyone. -
Not everyone can be pleased, I guess.
This (issue of a Fan Toggle missing) was the only main gripe I had about the M570RU... now its been solved.
So this notebook is fine in my eyes. -
-
Only 4 sager, not for general Clevo m570ru?
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
That is correct. You will have to contact your vendor to see if they have it available.
-
-
Great news!
-
I sent an email to the guy of eurocom... still waiting an anwser...
-
-
So if I have the sager 5791,can I get this?
-

This will work for all NP579x machines.

Justin,
Once this is installed, will the fans only work at full speed? -
Justin@XoticPC Company Representative
Rebel, it provides a toggle to turn them on high.
The serial # usually has "SC" in the middle of the serial #. -
wow this is great news. someday in the future maybe they will expand the fan toggle abilities =]
thanx for the heads up guys -
the Fan Toggle ability has been around since the previous generation of Clevo gamin notebooks
... it was awesome for cooling and the fan noise issue (from it coming on and off)... but switching it to Max Speed on all fans makes the noise constant and moves it into the background of what you are doing. -
Some nagging questions:
Before this toggle, the fans were controlled by BIOS right?
So does this mean that the fans won't be BIOS controlled anymore?
That there's only 2 states for any condition: ON or OFF?
Or is there a way to switch from Manual (toggle) to BIOS control? -
The Fan Speed has always been controlled at the low-level... firmware/BIOS.
You will have two options with the Fan Toggle:
- Auto Speed: All fans will be automatic to turn on when needed (like all notebooks should already have)
- Max Speed: All fans will be turned on to a full and constant speed.
Thats pretty much it.
Once you have a Fan Toggle at your fingertips, you don't go back. -
Thanks for the clarification.
-
Is this just a program we have ton install or we absolutly have to send it back to the reseller... anyway eurocom told me they will do the firmware upgrade...
-
You can install it yourself (99% sure), but since they're doing it, let's just say they should be the ones to screw up when something has gone wrong.
-
-
A firmware update is usually pretty easy... same as a BIOS update.
-
With this new functionality, do we lose the ability to turn off the touchpad now?
-
no, touchpad is Fn+F1, and Fan Control is Fn+1
-
-
I updated the firmware just now. Fan control works fine. If Fn +1 puts the fans to full, if you toggle it back, are they back to automatic? Seems like my PC is making MORE noise now... ? One fan seems to constantly be running, whereas the fan toggle only turns the second one on (and off, a couple seconds after i push it again). -

TheFrawg has said it best at http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=2880289&postcount=83
Fan noise and vibrations are part of Sager's system test before each system
is shipped. The noise level is within acceptable range for the system
specification by both Sager and Clevo.
The only objectionable vibrations you should feel from the Optical Drive would be from a warped disc, and you have to really be very sensitive to feel any vibrations from the fan when it is working properly.
Those of you that have not had a high performance laptop before should compare what you are experiencing with the NP5793 with any other high performance laptop out there and you will see they all sound about the same.
As a matter of fact if you go over to the NP9262 threads you will see that people are saying that it is surprisingly cool and QUIET. Now the interesting thing is that the NP9262 is actually slightly louder than the NP5792/3...so I can only conclude that those who are complaining about the amount of noise the NP5792/3 makes either have never had or heard a high performance laptop, or there is actually something wrong with theirs.
If anyone feels that their system fan noise or vibrations are overly noticeable after comparing it with other high performance laptops, they should contact their Vendor's support team to verify if what they are experiencing is defected hardware. -
So I`ve sent Sager an email 3 days ago, still ne message from them.I want my firmware
!
-
I had a problem with my GPU fan. Either the fan itself was bad, or the rubber feet on the fan slightly warped its casing ausing a problem. When the fan would turn on, it would sound like a bad bearing...very loud. SAGER sent me a new GPU fan. No more problems.
For all of those having fan noise problems, does it get better/worse when you move the laptop?
My NP5792 is more quiet than my last laptop. -
The firmware is working nicely here.
-
maksin01,
How is the switch from full speed to automatic? Is it seamless? -
-
I sent an email in an hour ago (8 pm est, too) and I've already gotten the email and installed it. Talk about a quick turn around
The background fans seem a little louder when on auto, but it is nice to now be able to toggle it to full while gaming. Constant (if louder) will be less distracting in the long run I think. -

Is yours a SAGER? Your signature indicates that it may not be. -
It is. but I use the signature as a way to relate to more notebooks. It's a 5791.You guys should know that
I received the firmware this morning. Will try it later on, as I have a nasty exam tomorrow and don`t have time for anything else... -
