    Sager NP579x Fan Firmware Updated

After reviewing the multiple threads regarding fan noise on Sager M579x (Clevo M570RU) series, sager had made additional fan firmware adjustments with Clevo and has receive the following adjusted firmware. “Version 1.00.07Sb”

    How-to ID your firmware version:
Please turn on “Boot-time Diagnostic Screen:” in the system BIOS to disable the boot logo
Then review the line” KBC/EC Firmware Revision:” during the system POST screen

Standard stock firmware from Clevo: 1.00.xx
Sager Edition: 1.00.07Sa (Sager revision a) what we have released last week.
Sager Edition: 1.00.07Sb (Sager revision b) released today 1/21/2008

    Fn+1: Full Fan Speed
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Fn+3: Mid Fan Speed (however fan will still automatic adjust speed up to full speed if temperature reaches our preset High throttle point, and back to Mid speed when cooled down.)
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Fn+2: remains as system original default to enable / disables SRS audio.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Starting today all new sager NP579x series will be shipped with this new firmware version, and Sager customers can request the firmware update from their Sager reseller or directly with sager Techsupport.

Please email your request to [email protected] with your system serial number.

For those who are annoyed at the fan cycling up to full speed every minute or so when doing light work, please use the new Fn+3 mid range control because then it will only cycle up when the temperature reaches the present high throttle point instead of every minute or so no matter what you are doing.

    Thanks Justin...

Only one thing that I´ve not fully understand is the objective of the new Fn + 2 hotkey...

Enables and disables SRS WOW audio enhacements?

    ;)

Fn + 2 has always set up as this. Is there something more you are questioning?

The objective behind it is some people doesn’t like the SRS WOW enhancement made to the audio playback, and wants to hear it as RAW as possible.

Run 3dmark06 demo, turn volume to max. and press fn+2 you should be able to hear the sound differences.

I have. Works nicely. I know a few others that have. I got used to the noise, but damn it is loud :D

With the updated firmware, things should become nicely.
Question : will powermizer make a comeback in any of sager`s "newer" drivers and increase performance? I`m stuck with lv2go drivers which do not have powermizer and that means my clocks on the gpu newer lower on battery...

However, regarding the Fn+2 shortcut, definitely does not work for me. Or is it just for the onboard speakers? ( might be me, my audio jack is dead,so I`m using an external USB sound card for now)

WOW This is what I mean by a company that listens to its customer base! I was one of those who suggested about such a feature but it was intended more to those in the open source community. Didn't expect Sager to undertake that responsibility. You guys exceeded my expectations to say the least. Before this, my next laptop was likely going to be a Sager/Clevo, now there's just no doubt :D :D.

eleron911, Do you see a noticeable difference when you toggle it down? Regarding the Fn + 2 it is for the on-board or speakers or ones plugged in through the front ports.

So bummer, I can`t experience the differece.Lol . :D It`s not like I did not use a powerful set of Altec Lansing before that could compensate for a SRS on/off.
By default it should`ve been on right? well,speakers/sound didn`t impress me before I had to get the USB soundcard...something above average...but the output was awesome. Too bad the audio jack is broken and soldered into the mobo, I would have fixed it ages ago...

The fn +3 hotkey helped tremendously. I have no idea why this is not enabled by default.

Where can I find documentation for np5793 firmware? I would not have learned about this very useful hotkey if not for this topic.

That page only has the user manual, which doesn't list any of the fan speed hotkeys. Which is why I was wondering if there's anything else that I missed, that's not in the manual.

You should be aware by now that searching is disabled for users with less than 100 posts.

You don`t need a manual for it:
-Fn+1 =full blast, recommended for long gaming sessions or extremely hot weather
-Fn+1 disables it and returns to auto mode.
-Fn+3 - medium forced mode at all times
-Fn+1 returns it to auto mode.
