Any bad or good comments on noise and heat for the NP5792 ?

Any estimates when 1033/1066 MHz FSB with a mobile CPU and weighing ~8 lbs or less will be available ?

Yah know, I seem to recall hearing one or two mild comments about both issues  , I think there might have been a comment or two in the following threads:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=207760

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=199495

Finding those comments might be a little difficult, however, so read carefully :D !

I have the 5793 with the T9300 CPU, 8800 card, and 4 Gigs. Even when the laptop is on my lap with the vents partially blocked, heat is a non issue. So is the sound. About once every few minutes, the fan will kick into high, but only for a second or two while playing games. Overall, the laptop for me at least, has no fan or heat issues.

Thanks. The first link indicates that fan noise is a problem.

Any estimates when 1033/1066 MHz FSB, mobile CPU will be available ?

With the new Fan Toggle feature... fan noise is almost negligible since you can toggle all fans to Medium speed and it stays constant... making the sound constant and becoming background sound.

Thanks. How many fan speeds are there? I didn't see this feature at the Sager site.

Can integrated graphics be used as a power saving option ?

Is anyone running Vista Ultimate 64-bit on their NP5792/3 with no problems? and with Office 2007 and no problems ?

Anyone expect these features to show-up in notebooks the 1st or 2nd quarter of 2008:
1033/1066 MHz FSB with mobile CPU
    7200rpm HD larger than 200MB
    more than 4GB RAM
    RAM faster than 667 MHz

    Thanks again for everyone's input.

    http://www.xoticpc.com/sager-notebook-np5793-pics-details-a-42.html

is where u can see its sexy inards o.o

many ppl have gotten the vista 64 w/ 4gb ram and only have the usual vista problems (which are slowley getting less and less :D).

and im pretty sure you cant use an integrated grafix for power saving. sum1 correct me if im wrong.

1033/1066 MHz FSB with mobile CPU - maybe but inlikley
7200rpm HD larger than 200MB - more than likley
more than 4GB RAM - not so sure
RAM faster than 667 MHz - POSSIBLY q2 doubt it tho

    oh and for fan speeds:

    regular (auto throttling)

medium (constant on medium w/ throttling if needed)

    high (fan always on max)

    RAM faster than 667 MHz
1033/1066 MHz FSB with mobile CPU

Both of these will be released as part of the montevina platform by intel around may 2008. There will be support for ddr3 ram. As for the other predictions, who knows? ;)

Well maybe for you, however for me they are still quite loud on medium, and certainly not "background sound". Especially if you are in a quiet room.

You have to expect some noise coming from a machine with the 8800GTX. We have tested the firmware ourselves and the mid fan toggle takes the growl out of it and make noticeable difference.

Amazing results with the Fan control, I think that has given many users to sleep soundly at night, hehe. :)

I played with the 5791 briefly and the fan noise when it blew maximum was the only thing that I ever noticed. Medium all the time must be a huge improvement.

I agree though, it is the change in noise level that is most noticeable.

Which of these generate the least heat (and therefore less fan noise) ?
    8700M GT
    7950 GTX
    8800M GTX

Looks like the following notebook features are expected by June 08:
1033/1066 MHz FSB with mobile CPU
    7200rpm HD larger than 200MB
    RAM faster than 667 MHz

Leaving "more than 4GB RAM" as unlikely by June 08.

The 8700M GT runs a tad cooler, but expect the default fan to kick in anyways, when the temp reaches 48C .
Less fan noise? that is something you can only attain by using the new firmware with which you can choose med speed ,and a constant noise(hardly call the medium speed a noise) will blend in. As one of the many whom complained about fan noise, the med speed is quite sattisfying.
Getting anything below the 8800M GTX would be a shame, since even this gpu barely handles new games...imagine what the 8700 or 7950GTX , which are only half as powerful could do...
Heat levels? pretty nice in my system...max cpu temp was 80C (on a stress test with orthos, nothing that would happen in real life, normal 30ish and +),max gpu temp was 63 C(crysis ,in a room where ambiental temp was 21C) ,hdd temp 54 (fujitsu 120 gb 5400rpm) ...screen is awesome and beautiful...etc

As for the predictions, yea,we know, end of the world and that...

Any high-end notebook manufacturer that comes out with integrated graphics that can be used as a power saving option will have a unique product.

Good to know. But I find to hard to walk into a meeting with one of those Alienware logos on the lid. I'll take another look at their notebooks but it would have to have some sort of 'toned-down' case.

The Sager NP5793 has an Outstanding Review except for one MAJOR drawback:

    http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=4235

    "Very loud cooling system"

"The NP5793's main downside is the loud cooling system, and without a doubt it will affect buying decisions."

"it has a lot of room for improvement in the acoustics area. The cooling system can be described with one word - loud. The NP5793 has one of the loudest cooling systems I have heard on a notebook. At low speed/idle, the noise level is audible but acceptable. However, once an application is started that uses the processor and/or graphics card, the noise level increases substantially, and the machine can be heard across a decent-sized room."

"Overall, while the cooling system does an excellent job of keeping the NP5793's heat under control, there is no free lunch here - this notebook is loud."

My original concern about noise, which I wrote about before this review, has been confirmed.

Unfortunately that leaves me with the following question.
Does anyone know of a notebook that is as good as the Sager NP5793 but quiet?

Does anyone know of a notebook that will be as powerful, light (but quiet) that will be released in the next couple of months?

Anyone know if Sager will (soon) release a high performance notebook that is quiet and have the power saving option of using integrated graphics?

    Thanks.

that review had a defective fan... so it does not count...

ALL gaming laptops will make noise while u game.. the sager NP5793 with the fan update can be quite enugh for class/uni/lectures/meatings if set on low/medium and u dont use the GPU ... ei your using Xp or vista with aero turned off. (which u should be doing if your on battery i guess.

they have no reason to.. the alienware M15x has the same specs as the NP5792 but has integrated graphics and a optical drive that can be switched for a battery and hotswaped while your game etc..

its a ugly ass laptop but imo designed for American 12year olds..

its 15inch and for Americans its priced aggressively to com peat with teh NP5792... however outside of America its retarded priced in the UK and AUS stores.

M15x sounds like its Exactly what u want... its overall smaller than the NP5793 and looks kind of like a macbook pro.. if your blind/stupid

Heathkidd, M15x was never designed to compete with the NP579x. Alienware has way bigger sales compared to Sager, so no competition there. Stop comparing a 15" to a 17". The Alienware does have extras compared to the Sager.
It's not fair to discuss any Sager vs others notebooks here.
