I am actually considering one of these machines from Killer Notebooks. I asked Mark if the processors he was selling were legit (not engineering samples) and he assured me that they were not. I'm not real sure what to think of all of this. I do like the mpds that he does on his machines and I think that they will do wonders in keeping the machine cooler then a stock Sager. I guess I will have to speak with him again and clear this up. Could be maybe he is selling these ES processors overseas?

the price of the notebook you plan on buying i assume would be around 3.5k-4k(supposing u would buy the penryn, 8800M GTX, and about 2 gigs of ram)you can save alot more money down the road buy just buying the sager np5792 and upgrading your video card to something better as technology develops (if they still use the same slot type that is). about the proc, a 2.4 c2d should last you quite a while without feeling too left behind.

oh and i personally don't want a ES proc. that has been identified buy 2 well-known reps. and if i was the person running the site i would probably lie to someone to protect myself from legal issues and make some money. DUUUHH.

also the killernotebooks site looks like poop =]

EDIT: nvm they have penryn for np5792 on xotic pc now. i customized one w/ t9300, 8800GTX, vista ultimate, 4gb ram, random other stuff for about 2.6k pwns killernotebook

That's because the KN one comes with custom GPU + CPU heatsink mods, of course it's gonna be more expensive

I dunno, if you want a notebook to last 4-6 years (my case), then I would spend the extra $1000 for a notebook which would presumably last longer because of better temperatures. Plus the mods make the laptops quieter, which is important to me since I live in a college dorm and leave the computer on overnight a lot

My last notebook exploded in '06 because it couldn't handle the heat from playing Counterstrike 1.6 :(

kk on KN it cost 4205$ (with the ES processors n mods)

    Xotic it was 2644$

only difference was that kn had "mods" and a T9500 while np5792 was stock w/ T9300

So you would rather pay 1/2 to 1/3 the price of a brand new notebook to get unproven mods that you think may make it last longer? ;). Soulds silly to me.

Heck you could invest that 1000 and if the notebook died in 3 years have almost enough for another brand new one with new tech.

There are a lot of people out there selling Sagers, I would be wary that only one seems to be selling these mods. The same one who has already been shown to be selling black market parts illegaly. It seems to be one guy, with a poorly put together web site. Sure it may show it running cooler in a week old notebook, but you have no idea what it's doing long term to the machine or the components you aren't monitoring. Clevo engineers designed it a certain way for a reason, I'm sure if it was as simple as a few more heatsinks they would have done it eh?

I would much rather have a notebook from a reputable reseller witha proven track record and solid support.

If you do decided to buy there I would reccomend at least seing if his mods void your warranty(and finding out from someone besides him).

When you buy the Sager NP5792 you have Sager, a company that has been in business for 23 years and sells thousands of laptops every month, to look to for warranty. Sager has Clevo to back them up.

When you buy a modded Clevo from a small, relatively new and unknown reseller, you only have them to look to for warranty, and they don't even have Sager or Clevo to back them up due to these modifications.

Remember, a warranty is only as good as the company standing behind it.

Is there not a fan controlling program for this laptop?

I'd just like to chip in, not on this model, but you guys did discuss why KN cost quite a bit more. I'm a purchaser of a KN Executioner (the original) and I just want to relate this one experience that indicates to me that KN really does support it's customers and that his customization and support are worth that extra bit of money.

I purchased my laptop for less than 2500 dollars, so it's not like I'm a "valued, ridiculously high paying customer that deserves extra recognition". When I received my laptop, I was stupid enough to leave the antivirus disabled for a day while I surfed the net, and I got hit with a ridiculous amount of viruses and trojans. I emailed Mark, and after we decided that it would take too much time to clean it out, Mark simply shipped me a new hard drive, and told me that I could just ship mine compromised one back after I had installed the new one.

This may not seem like much to some of you, but I felt that it was something above and beyond what he really needed to do, considering there was no hardware failure, and no blame on his part, but he stepped up and helped me out.

As for the warranty... um, from what I know, Killernotebooks will take care of them instead of sending them away to deal with Sager or Clevo like you'd get with a wholeseller; you also won't have to ever deal with Intel for warranty, OCz for the ram, or samsung for the HD; just one company and a single point of contact. I've seen Mark overnight replacement parts when told they went doa. Where is the problem?

BTW: The cooling mods are tested (older model): www.techwarelabs.com http://www.techwarelabs.com/reviews/notebooks/executioner-sr/index.shtml

I know there is bad blood between you two, but I fail to see why you go out of your way to jab at the company. You are knowledgable and I respect that, but I think you ought to respect the type of guy that looks at a rig and tries to improve it.. Jeez, I've seen the stock cooling solution on a m570u and it's the only place where I've seen a steel alloy plate used for heat transfer.. even the finish is garbage and hardly conductive to good thermal transfer. Simply lapping the block, using quality thermal compound and adding a couple cheap heat sinks lowered my temps a few degrees. These are the sorts of things enthusiast do to increase performance. Specs are minimum requirements... that's what stock machines are built to meet; the minimum. Some of us aren't satisfied with minimal performance and want a bit more... what can I say, I'm a geek. No seller out there but Killernotebooks shares those values and wants more out of notebooks beyond the minimum specs... fancy led lights are for kiddy toys, cnc machined cooling blocks are big boy toys.

They aren't the cheapest, so they don't compete with the wholesellers. They are a niche specialty company that cater to us geeks and tweakers.. I applaud Mark for being the only one who gets it instead of joining the herd and just slapping a new sticker on a clevo barebone and calling it done.

Trying to back on topic, what do you guys use to get fingerprints off of the lid of the machine? Fiber cloth?

I remember having some vanity issues with my 5791, and was wondering how the rest of Sager nation dealt with it.

For all of those who have been following this thread, it has turned into a heated debate in which several (new) users have come out in full support of Killer Notebooks and draw attention to them. It turns out that lolpie, ogun, WetWorks, and the TheWorminator are all most likely KillerNotebook clone accounts. They have all been permanently banned because we do not allow multiple user accounts.

I urge everyone to go back and read all comments in this thread carefully so you know what you are buying.

I have spoken with Mark. To say the least he has quite a bit to say about the vendors and others on this site. He has asked me to cconvey a message to everyone here. Here is a coy of whet he sent to me.He's been banned from this site for past BS.

    Start quote:
Honestly Randy, after reading the rest of that post, I think you should get it from Sager/Pro-Star.

In fact, I am SO SURE you should get it from Sager/Pro-Star, that I will sell you EXACTLY what they are going to sell you for less.

It is going to have the standard dead pixel policy of Sager/ProStar, it is not going to include heat sink mods on the CPU or GPU, it is not going to have case mods, it is not going to be built, shipped, warranted or tech supported by me, it will have all the factory software they include (but not my custom images & tweaks)... it will be built a Sager/Pro-Star system... just like these other resellers.

It will be exactly what they are giving you at the exact same price minus $50. Post that at NoteBook review and tell everyone there I will offer a VALUE LINE to directly compete with PowerNotebooks and XoticPC! Instead of their lies and mis-information eliminating their competition, it actually INCREASED their competition. The EXACT same system, at their price... MINUS $50.

    End Quote.

Now to me that seems like a company that is on the up and up. His mods WORK and they work well. Sager has not been able to get the extream processors to work in this chassis and yet he does it now and has for some time. Their price is not all that much more then any other Sager outlet considering they 1) use OCZ ram (cost on average +40%) 2) use retail hard disk drives that not only carry a longer warranty they carry a bigger cache size then what is offered by the other vendors. Not all drives are created equal. All this cosidered can you see why he might want to charge a little more? I can.

Enough. I think people are smart enough to make their own decisions about who to purchase from. I'd really like to see this thread back on track because I'm interested in the 5792, not who to buy it from.

Wouldn't a Windex dampened cloth do the trick or would the cleaner damage the casing? I use a windex dampened cloth for my cell since its a fingerprint-whore.

Mine has a carbon Fiber Lid, so the prints to not show that much

ANyways, Before buying the 5792, i was considereing the AW m17x and m15x. When looking at the artists reneditions on the AW website, they looked really beautiful. When looking at the pics on xoticpc or pcmw, i thought the orange trim was pretty ugly. After seeing it in person, I have to say other wise. THis laptop looks EXTREMELY BEAUTIFUL, SIMPLE YET GORGEOUS. And, personally, after veiwing the videos of the m15x, it does not seem that great anymore, why in my opionon it looks rather ugly compared to the 5792.

what i love about the orange trim is its understated 'look at me!' look. i hate the AW design which cries out for attention but i love the look of quiet style. its kinda like that sleeper race-car you sit next to at a stoplight that you hardly notice until the light turns green.

I am going to order one from XoticPC soon. I just have to sell my MBP.

I hope it won't be too big of a deal going from a 1" thick 15.4" notebook to a 17" almost 2" thick book.. but the performance will make up for it.

You would have to ask Eurocom what their return policy is.

Justin has just stated the Sager return policy. As long as you request an RMA for its return and get it back to Sager within 30 days of your ship date (not when you received it) you will get a full refund of your purchase price alone (not including shipping/handling and insurance) less any missing or damaged items.

Here are a couple screen shots of a Engineering Sample (PENRYN T9500 2.6GHz) we used only for testing purposes. (This is a ES CPU that will not be resold to anyone and posted just for informational purposes). This is the latest revision as Paladin has listed in a prior post in this thread. (Revision C0). This is after a fresh install with all Win Updates and with stock drivers.

    Justin,

Very interesting. I see that the memory score from windows is 5.1 whereas mine is 4.8. Do you know if the Penryn has better memory optimization or is it from the higher Processor speed? FSB is the same on both the Penryn and my processor.

It’s really because it's a memory / cache test The Penryn's are just more optimized overall bumping the index higher.

The stock cooling system is plenty sufficient at peak performance. Nothing more is needed. :D The cooler provides some additional circulation and cooling under the machine.
