I now post to this forum with my first real problem (oh no!).
On my 5793, I've been hearing an intermittent vibrating noise from one of the cooling fans. Sometimes it's quieter, sometimes louder and somewhat unnerving, but the fan doesn't actually stop spinning or anything.
I opened up the case and manually played with the fans for a bit, and when I spin the larger fan with my finger, it sounds as if it's brushing lightly against something. I didn't want to do any more than take the bottom cover off, so I didn't actually unscrew anything inside.
I'm pretty sure there isn't anything stuck in there. Can fans become misaligned somehow? Would there be a component below the fan which is now touching for some reason?
Anyone had this problem before? Thanks!!

does it happen to auto mode or fn+3?
-
Yes, it happens during both. I was going to mention it, but didn't want to write too much

i am experiencing the same problem, this is my thread regarding the issue:

solution: try 1.00.07 sf fan firmware. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=5NJ2WBR5 -
Is this a problem that comes up after use of the laptop? Haven't noticed this problem yet so hopefully it doesn't come up.
-
it has something to do with firmware.
-
Is it something you noticed in the first initial days after you purchased the laptop or some time after?
JW because if it something that you noticed in the first initial days then i guess i don't have to worry aboutr it but if it isn't then i do -
I made a post few days later because I thought it was normal at first.

Lol i got a bit paranoid and thought this was happening to... Forgot that my laptop was on.. I was like why is fn+3 so LOUD and hummy. Dont hear any vibrations so hopefully they dont show up. Haven't found any real problems yet with the comp. Except the fact taht i cant partition the stupid drives..

It's been a couple months since I've had this laptop, and never noticed the problem before. I've had the latest fan firmware installed and no problems.
It only started a week ago, about the same time my city got really hot and humid.
I'm sort of doubting it's a firmware problem, but I'll try the one recommended by Nirvana, because it is possible that my city's relative coolness up until the heatwave wouldn't have brought out the vibrating noise.
Thanks for the responses! If anyone knows of any common hardware issues with 5793 fans, I'd appreciate hearing about them as well. -
Got mines 2 days ago, cant go back to my desktop 4 year old 15" screen from this beautiful 17" WUXGA one. I look at it and go, how did i ever use that lol.

Definitely a RMA...if the fans are touching the exterior parts..it's not good.

sounds to me like the bearing is going, same is happenning on mine, I'm having a new fan sent out
