I was interested in this model NP5793 for its price and performance but I would like some clarification from users below:-

    1) Is the 1920X1200 matte screen clear, how about the brightness and contrast? Since it is not a glossy screen (I heard many are complaining the screen is too dim). How about when gaming, is it good for gaming? Why Sager did not offer the option for glossy screen that it has previously used to offer?

    2) How about the fan noise despite the good cooling system? I heard this model have one of the loudest cooling system on earth. Since I am currently sharing a room with my room mate, will the noise from this loud system irritating? Does this system has a fan speed control button like in NP8660?

    Great thanks.

    1) Dunno about the screen but the 1680x1050 matte screens I've seen were pretty dim, even the glossy screens of the same resolution were only rated at 200nit brightness. Panel model was LG Philips LP171WE2-TL03 on the 1680x1050 glossy screen, if you would like to look it up.
    2) If its straight from the factory before final assembly by Sager, I'd say it is one of the loudest. Luckily Fn+1/2/3 fan controls were invented :)

    1) I have the glossy WUXGA and it's really dim, the dimmest of my 15 laptops, so don't expect any better with the matt.
    2) You should see my another thread: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=364249

@siLc, I highly doubt if my WUXGA is anywhere close to 200nit.

Based on the replies from above, then its ... my very last reason to purchase the NP5793 was gone. I could stand the loud cooling system but I could not tolerate the dim screens.

Why on earth did Clevo/Sager produces screen that is so dim and they claim it is the best gaming system in the world. What for, even the system is coupled with dual GTX280M SLi, you can't even enjoy the graphics just bcos the screen is so dim.

The barebone manufacturer doesn't produce the screens, others companies such as LG Philips, Chi Mei Optoelectronics, AU Optronics and Samsung produce the actual screen panels.
As I see it, there is no reason to be glum - ask Sager about what model screens are used, then you can look up the specs and make an (more) informed decision.

Not sure exactely what your looking for but, I've had my 5793 for about a month now, and its the best notebook purchase, out of 3, that I have made !

Sure , there's bigger, brighter and better out there, but you can't compare them to the 5793 just because of the price. A lot more bang for the buck here.

I've used both matte and glossy screens and my biggest complaint.......................glossy shows every spec of dust, fingerprint and dirt known to man. I'm very happy with the matte finish !

I'm also running my fans at med. to high, sitting on top of a Zalman cooler and the sounds don't bother me and best of all doesn't get on my wifes nerves , while were sitting together on the couch !

Some forumers here are saying the screen is bright and some say it is the dimmest screen the they have ever experienced. So which is which?

The official review, somebody even mentioned:-
"If I did not say this is one of the best-looking displays I have seen on a 17-inch notebook, I would be lying. Contrast is excellent - blacks are deep and whites are stark - and the brightness level is high as well, noticeably more so than my HP w2207 desktop monitor."

I just want to make sure the screen satisfy me before my $$$ credited to Sager's bank account.

I remember I read it somewhere, was it Chaz?

So here we go, on the left hand side, we have a thinkpad X41 Tablet; on the right hand side, we have a 5793. Both full brightness.

Gosh, that really is dim! :(

I have a matte wsxga+ model AA9C962 on my 5793 and it's much better than that.

Walou Nirvana, thanks for the pics. Nevertheless, the pics that you posted really makes me feel that this lappy is produced in the year of 1998 or 1999....

    @Thug21,
You said ur screen is better than Nirvana? How could that be as both are the same model using the same matte screen? Or izit Nirvana's screen is really a faulty one??

I don't think they changed the LCD screens. Good thing of buying from Sager tho, is that you can always return them within 30 days if you are unsatisfied, no question asked, no re-stocking fee.

I have owned both finishes , glossy and matte !

You will "NOT" be disappointed with the matte finish !

And again , I will re-iterate, the matte finish is not a fingerprint magnet like the glossy !

And yes, I have watched a blu ray movie on mine and it looks fantastic !
