Hello All:
First of all i posted within here because my question strictly deals with "Sagers". I have been reading up on information provided by all participants of this forum. Within the next two weeks (hurray for getting a bonus this year) I'll be ordering my first Notebook. I have narrowed the candidates down to two.
1. NP8660
2. NP5793
I'll be using my laptop in between work and home, as well as taking it for presentations and such. Also be doing gaming on it. I don't mind "lugging around" a 17" notebook, I went and tested the 17" vs the 15.4 at Best Buy and didn't find it as cumbersome as some say. As of now I'm leaning towards the NP5793 because there is a good deal for it, and it has a little more screen for doing some photoshop and running a lot of stuff through Excel as well as having a number pad. The only question I have for owners of the M570RU is what is the matte screen like. I've read some post in the past for matte vs glossy but couldn't find them again. When I go to Best Buy, all they have are the glossy screens, so i can't compare. I like the way the glossy looks with photos and dvd's, but have not been able to compare to a matte. I know that glossy vs matte is based primarily on user preference, but input versus the two on what you like and don't like about either type of screen would be greatly appreciated. If the matte is not as crisp as the glossy then I will purchase the NP8660 because it is also a good deal. I would like to not shell out another $700-1000 for the NP5797, even though I'm tempted to. Trying to stay within a set budget for myself.
Thank you all for you time,
Bigfeet

a matte screen will never be as bright and crips as glossy screen. colors will "pop" less too. however, if you plan on using your NB in an office environment a lot, remember that a glossy screen will reflect all sorts of lights and other things, which can be really annoying.

The 5793 has a noisier cooling system, older tech but will run cooler.
-
For your needs, you'll find the 8660 more appropriate, especially with the portability factor, and the laptop would look a lot sleeker and neat on a desk giving presentations rather than the bigger 5793.
Right now the 5793 has no real advantage over the 8660. -
wait, does a 5797 have a newer cooling system than a 5793 even though its the exact same casing?
-
only has new Silent Mode feature. -
The 5797 does have a revised motherboard am I correct? So it can handle more demanding parts which means it's more upgradeable? (Sorry I have fallen behind on my notebook tech since I got my 8660, been gaming a lot
)
The glossy screen on my 8660 is very glossy, to the point where it reflects everything if I'm outside on a nice day. So far I am not really liking the glossy screen; if there were a matte 1680x1050 screen for my notebook I'd take that up right away. -
The matte screen on the 5793 looks fantastic to me.................and less glare !
I've had matte and glossy screened notebooks and glossy seems to be a fingerprint magnet, for some reason and imo, really doesn't offer all that much more pop, as stated in a previous post.
NP5793 or NP8660
