    Hi all,

I have finally narrowed my new laptop choice down to a Sager NP5793. It seems like a great deal right now with the newer models coming out. It seems I have similar questions to others on the forum regarding screen brightness, fan noise and warranty.

    1) Has anyone purchased one of these closeout models in the last few months? How is the screen brightness? Does anyone have pictures showing the screen at maximum brightness? I asked someone over at powernotebooks what model LCD they are currently using and am waiting for a response.

    2) I have read that this model's fans are quite loud. Are they loud all the time or just when gaming? If it is just when gaming I won't care because I will either have headphones or speakers going. If it happens while browsing the internet or working in Excel, my wife is gonna have a problem since I do this a lot while she watches TV. :)

    3) I have never purchased extended warranties for computers and have only had to make one warranty claim in 8 years. Maybe I am just extremely lucky. Is a 3 year warranty on this model needed?

It seems like XioticPC and powernotebooks is the place to buy from. I see a lot more reviews at powernotebooks then Xiotic, but everyone on this forum seems to mention Xiotic. Any particular reason?

xotic is just one of the most popular places, plus they have great service and feedback. still, i would expect powernotebooks to be just as good.

NBR itself has a great review of the NP5793 available here that has details on both screen performance and noise levels.

Personally, I'd say that the fans are a touch loud.

Strongly recommend the whitebook for a better screen and much less noise.

I read the review which is what led to some of my questions. From the review

This seems contrary to many people complaining the screens were too dim. It was also very clear that when this thing is working, it gets very loud.

I think the OCZ is a bit out of my price range and it is 2 lbs heavier. I configured one at Xiotic and it was $500 more than the Sager.

Tat's why I have created a thread 2 days ago asking for opinions on the screen brightness but seems that 50% of the ppl here are saying that the screen is fantastic and bright whereas another 50% is complaining that it is a very lousy screen, some even said that this screen is one of the dimmest despite a Glossy finish, I bet the matte finish is worse.. I really wonder which is which now.

For the cooling fans reviews, 33% is saying very loud,33% is saying loud, 33%is saying normal.. now it is really complicated.

Is there any chance that I can have a physical look at the screen before my money exchanges hands.

Ya, looking at that picture side by side with a Toshiba? I think it looked very dim.

I made a contrast last night between WUXGA glossy on M570RU and WUXGA matte on M860TU. The 86 one is much much better than the 57.......and to the fan noise, i would say it´s very loud......

I purchased one of these computers and received it yesterday.

Today, I"m about 99% sure I"m going to be returning it.

The screen brightness is easily less than 1/2 as bright as my former Sony Vaio (and even the previous Sager I owned).

If I don't get a fix to this in a day or two, it's going back.

(Which REALLY sucks because I live in Japan and will easily lose $300~$400 in shipping fees etc)

At this point, I would highly recommend AGAINST buying it

Can you please check which model of LCD you received? According to Donald over at powernotebooks, this is the screen they are using, which has a luminance rating of 190 nits. I did some checking on what screen my Inspiron 8600 is using and found that it has a luminance rating of 185 nits. I then realized that I am perfectly happy with my screen so unless the Sager is doing something different I don't think it will look much different. Maybe the sony and toshiba has an even higher rating.
