Right now the NP5793 is at $1400 USD at both xoticpc and powernotebooks. To my unexperienced eyes (I haven't kept up with laptops for about 2 years), this looks like a great offer which I might consider taking advantage of, but I'd like to check that the 9800GTS isn't secretly an overclocked integrated solution or something like that.

The specs I'm currently looking at are a T8100 (2.1 gHz), 4 GB of DDR2667 RAM, a 250GB 7200 RPM HD, a matte WUXGA 17" screen and a 9800GTS with 512MB of GDDR3. There is a review for this laptop, but I guess it must be an older model or something, since according to the reviewer his GPU is an 8800, not a 9800, and I wasn't sure if it's valid to compare the two as other things may be different about it as well. Thank you in advance for any help you might provide.

Yes, it definitely worth it. There is nothing wrong or outdated about the model really, especially if you are buying it just to play games.

the 9800 GTS is a dedicated card and is 1% better than the 8800m GTX.

Only 1%? Is it one of those models where the only improvement over the old one is DX10 or something?

Thanks a lot anyways for allaying any of my possible fears. I'll have to talk to convince my parents I need it now :p

the 9800M GTS is actually slightly slower than the 8800M GTX, but not by much.

Oh right, the GTS....I was thinking the GT.

Yes, the GTS is slower by 1% but runs much cooler and has series 9 features.

However, it has less shaders, so it will become dated faster than the GT.
