Hi all!
Anyone know if the NP5796 is going to support the upcomming mobile Quad Core CPUs? I allready saw one mobile Quad CPU go on eBay and I am wondering that should I watch eBay to buy one. What do you think, would a 2.26 Ghz Core 2 Quad CPU with 12MB cache be better than a Core 2 Extreme X9100 (default clock 3Ghz) CPU with 6MB cace ? (Expesially in games) Or the X9100 despite that it has "only" 2 cores, is much better for games because the much higer clock speed?

In games, dual-cores currently perform much better than quads. And I know Eurocom offers this model with a quad-core CPU, but it's not officially supported by Clevo and I haven't seen any benchmarks on it. Maybe you could call up Eurocom and ask?

Obviously, any "true" multi-threaded app will run better with a QC, as compared to a DC, even if the X9100 is clocked higher by 0.8GHz.
But current DC notebooks might not be compatible with the Mobile Quads, mainly because the Quads have a different electrical pin-out, so they'll need a slightly different socket (P '). Plus, you'll need a huge heat-sink to cover the two dies on the quads.
The M570TU might need a revised mobo or something to support the new mobile quads. -
-
Rumors from trusted resellers of Sager say look for them in a few weeks...
Games designed for multi-cores will always run better on quads than duals. Alan Wake's developers showcased what could be done on a simple quad when compared to an extreme edition dual core. FSX does well with the quads also, when patched with SP2. Will utilize all 4 cores at max.
I jumped on the bandwagon though and got an X9100. As soon as a quad faster than 2.5ghz comes out, I'll likely move back to quad. Perhaps when intel begins printing on 30nm dies, we'll see 3ghz mobile quads -
I´m thinking of the QX9500 @2.8GHz.

I wonder that does this work with the default heatsink (I really hope so) and does it require a BIOS update? And it also would be nice to know that what is the max clock speed which the BIOS let's to set(If it is possible to OC it to 3.0 Ghz from the BIOS than it is really AWESOME)
-
Well generally the multipliers are unlocked by clevo by 2x. The fsb of the QX9300 is 266mhz, and multiplied by a 2x (11.5), 266x11.5 would give us 3059mhz.
The new clevo bios for the M57TU allows for Quads:
http://www.clevo.fr/CLEVO-M570TU/
1. BIOS 1.00.09, EC 1.00.08.
2.Support new M/B for Quad core processor.
3. Solve “system can’t identify BT device correctly when the BT cable exists” issue.
4. Solve “sometimes system pauses at POST screen, and need to press any key to continue” issue.
5. When system working temperature reaches fan on point but the system can’t receive normal fan speed information, it will alarm for one minute then shut down.
6. Run step1.bat and step2.bat to update. -
I think the 2x by Clevo is only from 9.5 to 11, not 11.5. So 266x11 = 2.93GHz. Like X9100, from 11.5 to 13.

ah. well its not all that much of a difference either way. But cool for quads! I'd much rather have a solid multiplier. Makes it more compatible with applications like RMClock and FSB programs.

your right... I looked past the m/b part of it. DANG! Guess I'll be upgrading sooner than I thought.
-
This means current M570TU laptops can't handle Quad CPU even with BIOS update? damm
-
Yes, that is what it would appear. Gay. But why would they release a BIOS update for the M570TU with support? I'd assume any new m/b would come with the updated bios. Would the M570TU have a different name or way to distinguish it from that with a new mobo? something seems fishy here...
-
Maybe only a new design of power supply.
-
I think dual cores are still the way to go right now. The price difference for dual and quad core "mobile" cpu's just isn't worth it right now. Sure some people will say quad core is better for gaming, but the cost you put into buying a quad core "mobile" cpu would be better spent on a sli gpu setup.
-
I hope our current m570TU can handle mobile Quad too, because I would like to use Quad CPU in the future but I would not like to change my laptop too because of it. -
That had a motherboard update to enable the use of the 8800M GTX if I remember correctly. Although that wasn't exactly Clevo's fault. -
I would like to use them too, when they get improved a bit more. Perhaps the next revision I will upgrade, like bwhxeon said, the price is steep. DRevan, you are correct in saying that clevo has always given a system a new name with a new mobo. Why would they release a new bios with quad support if the quads won't even work on the mobo they are releasing a new bios for? What gives?!? Justin or Donald, if you are here anymore, do you have any ideas?
-
I do believe a CPU with a different pin-out will need a different socket. Thats what the datasheets indicated when comparing the new QC pinout with the old DC pinout. And there have been a no. of rumours regarding the unconfirmed Socket P '.
When a user selects a QC, then the QC-compatible mobo is used in the M570TU. Its not necessary to change the nomenclature.
For the time-being, DCs are fine. QCs might go mainstream once the GM/PM55 chipsets are released. -
small motherboard revisions haven't necessitated name changes, and this is probably just that. The M570RU didn't get a rename through several revisions, only when they changed the physical enclosure (to support extreme cpu's, nothing to do with 8800M GTX suport)
Dual core MV cpu's will work in a quad compliant mobo, but not the other way around -
-
Well that makes sense... kinda...
I still think there needs to be a naming change. Some way to distinguish whether or not your system can take a quad or not.
But if not, I'll be upgrading when PM55 comes out -
Besides, there are already laptops on the market that take both quads and duals interchangeably.
The sockets do differ in pinouts (same physical, different signals), but a quad capable socket remaps it in the bios when it detects a quad is inserted whereas a dual only capable board just says "*** is this?" -
So, you actually mean that all Clevo M570TUs use the QC mobo....?
So, anyone who buys a M570TU with a DC can install a QC themselves ? -

Edit: darn, pipped to the post -
