    Hey folks,

Got a hinge snapped on my NP5796. The plastic casing is fine; it looks like it's the alloy inside piece that mysteriously broke. Anyone have any part vendors they like to go to for an older unit like this?

Also, any idea how much of a pain it's going to be to fix?

    Much obliged,

    Justin

All things said and done, It wasn't horrible to do... if you look at the lcd lid, there will be like 7 rubber dots along the bezel. those are stickies over the screws. if you unscrew them you can pry the bezel off and you will see the joint bars running up each side of the lcd. unscrew the broken one and put in the new one. for the lower half (if I remember right) you just need to unscrew the bottom part of the hinge using one of the two screws accessible from the back of the laptop where the hinge comes in.(the one that lines up with the broken piece. pull the broken piece out and slide the new hinge in and screw everything back together the way you took it apart.... really not to dificult as there shouldnt be other components in your way.. i think when I did mine it took me maybe 1/2 hr from start to finish.

you may wanna look at the service manual for your machine to boost your confidence :)
