    Hello! Long time lurker, wanting to join the conversation about the NP5796. I am in the market for a new notebook and this seems to be the best for my needs/budget. The one and only concern I have is noise...

    I have used a variety of notebooks over a number of years and have found that most consumer notebooks are fairly quiet at idle. That's a broad generalization and I realize that some are louder than others but on the whole they are quiet. I run a small business and have worked with dell, gateway, toshiba, msi, asus, etc. There have only been a couple of notebooks that I have found to be distractingly loud at idle. My main machine is currently an Acer 8204wlmi for a while now and have been satisfied with the fan noise. It's not silent, even undervolted at idle, but it's quiet and that's all I need.

    ...typing on a MSI Wind...accidentally hit the cursed enter button here...premature post...

    A couple of questions and comments...

    First...do you think I would be satisfied with the idle noise of the NP5796?

    Second...In the absence of a speedfan type solution (1st preference) I wondered if it would be possible to hard mod the fans? On numerous occasions I have modded desktop fans with resistors to slightly decrease the volume. My theory is that Sager has a philosophy about cooling that seeks maximum longevity of parts over lower acoustic. Maybe they are afraid of the current fiasco with Nvidia and the premature death of some of their notebook chips. It sounds like the fans could be deceased to more satisfying levels without putting the CPU/GPU in any danger.

    So...could a short 2pin (3pin?) female-male run of cable be inserted between the fan and the board with a small resistance to slightly decrease the speed of the fans overall. I'm not thinking of a permanent mod to the stock fan cable...just the addition of a short cable between the fan cable and the board.

    Thoughts?

    ---apologies for the original half post

    We wont be able to explain how loud the thing is on idle because everyone is accustomed to different things. If your used to mainstream notebooks this is going to sound alot louder then what your used to. But for someone like me who is used to sitting next to a loud gaming laptop this was a lot quieter.

    @Mkang25

    Thanks for the reply. Obviously its tough to convey a sound without some kind of reference but I appreciate the comparison to mainstream notebooks. That's helpful
