Starting a couple months back, I began to experience some problems with my laptop when running games.
It started with the FFXIV beta which I just attributed to my hardware not being up to snuff and didn't think too much about it.
Then I reactivated WoW which I've been playing since I received this laptop and never had any problems. However, now, about once every 5 minutes, the FPS of the game will drop from 60fps to 5fps and last roughly 30 seconds. Then it's completely fine until about another 5 minutes.
Same exact thing happens with SC2. Runs beautifully for 5 minutes then unplayable for 30 seconds. Rinse and Repeat.
Any suggestions on what might be the culprit? I don't see the HDD light thrashing when this happens and I've checked task manager and the CPU seems fine as well. Could it be the video card having problems? I'm at a loss and really feel like this is still good hardware to play the games I like to play but it looks like I might need to buy a new laptop.

Can you tell us your temps on CPU and GPU? Seems to me like the CPU and/or GPU throttle down due to overheating. Also check if there is any dust blocking the fans.

Thanks so much for this! I didn't even think of that for some stupid reason. I opened up the bottom and cleaned up the fans and HSFs which were clogged to hell. Just played an entire mission of SC2 without a single hiccup! Thanks!!!
