My np5796 just arrived and I'm going crazy! Just finished installing Vista on it and currently putting drivers on.

Benchmark and review within 24 hours. I think I got the first one! :)

BTW, the system came with the $25 intel gas card.

I've put all the default drivers on off the CD. In the process of putting the latest 177.x drivers on from laptopvideo2go.com

There is a noticeable difference in speed compared to the NP5793. Everything is snappier and I love the new turbo memory.

You guys are expecting a little too much.
    1) he just got the system, be patient...
    2) the 9800M GTX is not any sorts of breakthrough...15-20% increase.

    Patience is over-rated.

Once the OS is loaded with the drivers, thats the best time to benchtest!
Nothing to stand in the way!
    On with the test!

    OK OK OK!

Some of us work a full time job and go to school...

First Benchmark, and I'll be adding other benchmarks to this particular post number for the next hour or so. Running driver version 177.92 with nVidia PhysX working.

    Basic Config:
    P9500 2.5GHZ | 9800M GTX Stock | 4GB DDR3 | 200GB 7200rpm | Vista Ultimate x64 SP1

    3DMark06
    9709

    3DMark Vantage:
    P5079 - Overall
    4049 - GPU
    21437 - CPU

    Crysis 1.2 GPU Tests DX10 x64
    1680x1050 Very High - 16.23 FPS Average
    1024x600 Very High - 28.56 FPS Average

If I could only figure out how to overclock this now...

Hmm, our 3DMark06 scores are close...mine is only a pinch higher, the CPU most likely but my Vantage score was 4270, much less than yours.

I am begining to think all of these benchmark utilities....suck. LOL

Ya 3DMark06 puts a lot of lean into the CPU. Vantage focused a bit more on GPU. Also I'm not running SP1 yet, which seems to up points a bit in each app. What are you running your X9100 at?

based from what i have seen (another guy posted his benchmarks as well) the 9800m gtx is not any faster than the 8800 gtx/9800 gt cards.

let's use crysis as the benchmark. it's the mother of all benchmarks. nothing else matters.

    here are my benchmarks. i do have very high settings posted below by hacking them into windows xp;

-800x600 all high dx9 = 49.16 fps avg. single gpu

-1280x960 all high dx9 = 31.91 fps avg. single gpu

-1440x900 all high dx9 = 29.62 fps avg. single gpu

-1680x1050 all high dx9 = 23.37 fps avg. single gpu

-1920x1200 all high dx9 = 18.86 fps avg. single gpu

--800x600 all high dx9 = 43.50 fps avg. sli enabled

--1280x960 all high dx9 = 41.67 fps avg. sli enabled

--1440x900 all high dx9 = 38.56 fps avg. sli enabled

--1680x1050 all high dx9 = 35.19 fps avg. sli enabled

--1920x1200 all high dx9 = 30.28 fps avg. sli enabled

---1280x960 all very high dx10 xp hack = 30.75 fps avg. sli enabled

---1440x900 all very high dx10 xp hack = 28.87 fps avg. sli enabled

---1680x1050 all very high dx10 xp hack = 25.24 fps avg. sli enabled

---1920x1200 all very high dx10 xp hack = 21.44 fps avg. sli enabled

No its definitely faster than my 8800M GTX. The DX10 Hacks are not very comparable to the actual DX10 performance anyways. Hard to compare hardware when running to difference OS's.

i ran the very high settings at 1680x1050 again but this time with single gpu to and compare it to the 9800 gtx. i got 14.83 average fps. so looks like about 10% performance advantage for the 9800 gtx.

Just the differences in how the actual backend API is constructing the scene. Best to compare hardware with the same OS normally. But ya, either way, big performance drop.

After upgrading to SP1 and turning off a few unneeded processes, my 3DMark Score jumped to 9709. Not bad.

emike09, if you can run your crysis benchmarks with the same resolutions as i have posted that would be great! you obviously have to stay with dx10 mode but doing high and very high bench runs would really put out the knowledge base.

theoretically the 9800m gtx should have a 17% performance advantage over the 9800gt/8800gtx as it has 16 more shaders and the rest of the clocks are exactly the same. now, in an ultimate game like crysis it would be nice to see what happens.

The 9800m GTX isnt going to be a huge improvement.. and compared to the 8800 it's likely more of a 10% gain, not anything more.

Just an FYI.. my 9800m GTS just posted 9601 3dmark06, no OC on the GPU or CPU. 1280x1024.

EDIT: however, your card won't OC as high as mine..and I can likely post higher scores OC'd ;)

This makes no sense. You and I have almost identical specs, where it matters: CPU, GPU, RAM and HDD yet you score hundreds of points higher...
There has to be a reason.

    Time for me to FFR
    (Fdisk, Format & Reinstall)

    Oh, I was asked...what OS, I have Vista Ultimate w/o SP1

Trying to achieve your scores? What?!?

I've been OC'ing for years. Nothing new to me. I think somebody is afraid to be beat... :)

Not trying to prove anything either. I just love getting the most out of my system. I can't stand running stock. And I would love to run crysis at 1680x1050 Very High (No motion blur) and get 25-30fps. Once I can bump up the core, shaders, and mem, I think I'll have a chance.

Still don't know if its 65nm or 55nm!!! No way to tell, and nobody has the info on it.

Well in that case, bring it!

I still like your system, all jokes a side. Your video card will be my only solution for an upgrade, so I’m pulling for ya! For the record, that 9800GTX should easily beat the others in high resolutions, so only engage them where it counts (1920x1200+ resolutions). ;)

You mentioned you're going to be working on overclocking to achieve more performance...i'm a noob at that stuff so maybe you could give me some pointers of what you're doing to you're system and i'll follow

    Thanks!

So wait, the 9800m GTS is overclockable? Is that via BIOS, or software?

I wish the GT could be OC'd with ntune or Riva.

Its friggin heavy, but lighter than the NP9262.

The battery is decent, about 1.5 hours unoptimized.

Points are hard to come by once you reach the 11K mark, so I know I can't touch that score without a RAM upgrade.

^ Keep in mind you are running XP, which gives a higher score than Vista and does not reflect comparative hardware benchmarking.

    That aside...

Great score! Really good. I'll see what I can do once the system can OC.
