What's up guys. Just wondering -- since XoticPC is running the NP5796 pre-order sale with equal configuration, and the price is guaranteed, would it be a good idea to buy now and take advantage of the guaranteed price offer?

What I mean is, is it likely that the release price of the 5796 will be higher come July 14th (current ETA)? I'd rather pre-order a 5796 cheaper than spend more money on an official release price :p

I think the pricing will be pretty similar. This is a business and they are in it for a profit, so it seems like when Sager told their resellers to take the orders for the 5793 as a preorder for the 5796 it seems like it is going to be similar.

Of course I want/need the notebook : ) It's just a matter of whether or not I'm likely to save a little $$$ buy purchasing the pre-order with "equal specs" versus waiting for the official release and spec'ing it out myself

Thanks for the quick reply btw, that was like 15 seconds. Ha.

the pricing is going to be comparable anyways, so I would just order it to get it out of the way... before you have to get on a waiting list when the new model goes official for orders.

Go for it then. If the price gets higher, you keep the lower price. If the price gets lower, you get the lower price too.

    Win-win.

I would recommend getting in personal contact with the reseller beforehand, to see if you can achieve at least a moderate degree of certainty as to what would be in the 'equally matched' NP5796 you would receive.

This is what I did (ordered my new NP5796 just the other day WAHOO!!! etc. :D) and I am fully satisfied. Essentially if you do this and order now there is not much difference to speccing it out yourself - you're guaranteed the same price or lower.

I have made an effort to do this, contacted Justin at Xotic. He was very helpful, confirming that it WILL ship with the new DDR3 memory and Montevina chipset, even though they're not currently selectable. However, when trying to get an idea of exactly which Montevina processor I'd be getting, he wasn't able to confirm which one seeing as how it's not officially released... which is understandable.

My current assumption is that if I order it with the T9300 (2.5GHz), I would hope to expect a P9500 (2.53GHz ... the closest in the Montevina lineup)... but I guess I can't be totally sure.

My understanding is that because the P9500 does not have a direct equivalent in the speccability that is possible for the NP5793 - ie. it does have near to the same clock speed as the T9300, but it has improved features like decreased power consumption, etc. - then the Intel NDA makes it difficult for resellers to say 'your NP5796 will contain a P9500'.

I would ask you to pm me about this, but I don't seem to have enough privileges to send or receive pm's just yet D: I guess more posts are required or something.

i might suspect the P9500 to be a bit more expensive. I heard around $35 but thats speculation. I'm going with the T9300 and we'll sort it out after cause the p9500 is what i want too. Also can't wait to see the video card options. Anyways this is going to be a sick notebook. order it now and get 4gb upgrade for free. it'll probably be a bit cheaper now than later but we'll see.

Now my question is, say we order the 5793 now and obviously receive the 5796 how do our oder choices impact the 5796? Mainly in terms of the CPU we get, if I were to order now with a t9300 what would it be changed to. Will we receive a notice to update our order once the site is released?

You should call us to get some clarity about these issues.

The P9500 is the only processor that does not have a current equivalent so there will be a small upgrade for that.

The video card equivalents are the only thing we really can't talk about now...but you will be pleased once it is announced.

So, that best thing to do is place your order as soon as you can because supplies are really limited, and you don't get in line with a Sager order number until your order is placed and paid for.

They will probably update the CPU to the newer equivalent. I'm guessing either the T9400 2.53Ghz. or the P9500 2.53 Ghz. They'll probably charge a bit more for the P9500 since it uses less power and is more efficient...

You mentioned that they offer a deal where you can get 4GB RAM free. Is it DDR2 or the newer DDR3?

It is the new DDR3/1066MHz memory, but it isn't free, it is a free upgrade to 4GB from 2GB.

It is all laid out on our websites, so go check them out.

Will I have problems if I wait until August 4th to get the new wireless card (and Centrino 2 sticker :D)?

    No need.

The first shipments of the NP5796 should have the Intel 5300 WiFi in them for a full Centrino 2 platform.

BUT...what might be funny is that Intel may not have the stickers to us by then :(

NOOOOOO!!!! We will have to either fabricate our own stickers at the secrete laboratory behind the trainstation, or create a band of sticker theives to take off other laptops when they come out...

Now will the new intel WiFi be supported by all internet networks? I shouldn't have any issues getting wireless on my college network with a new card should I?

I think most colleges still use g, and the cards are backwards compatible. I don't know if this is n standard or still the draft, but it should work, at least before the n if finalized.

All wireless cards are backward compatible.

The new Intel 5300 is still draft "n"

whoa, video card equivalents? Thats a surprise as this is mostly an Intel thing and I don't think amd/ati or nvidia would want to have much to do with it. Looking forward to pleasant surprises either way.

i dont understand why there would be a problem finding equivalents for the videocards... the 8800 would obviously be the 8800 and the 1600 would obviously be the 9600 since the benches seem basically the same.

well, why would paladin be keeping his mouth shut. if they were going to throw in the same 8800m GTX they would have said so but instead they are taking a vow of silence until tuesday. I don't want to get my hopes up but silence seems to mean things here.

oh snap, I'm getting reved up for this.... but I think one of the reasons why toshiba delayed their gaming machine was because of a delay in 9800, so this makes me kinda doubtful... but tuesday we'll know for sure.
