    Hi,

I'm interested in buying a NP5797 but I saw a review here of the Clevo version and they basically said the screen performance was well below average.

    http://www.notebookcheck.net/Review-mySN-XMG7-Clevo-M570TU-Notebook.11690.0.html

Is this true? Is the screen that poor?

The laptop will cost me near $3000. I sure would like a nice screen. I know it's not a RGB LED screen but I don't want something below average either. ANy feedback is welcome.

    Thanks! ;)

If my memory serves me right, the review model that Notebookcheck received had a Samsung WUXGA panel in it. All NP5797's that are shipping now have an LG WUXGA panel, which is a lot nicer than the Samsung.

Also, never trust Notebookcheck's reviews. Only go to them for technical facts such as component specs.

Display quality is one of the most subjective aspects on a notebook. It really depends on the taste of the user to judge whether a panel is to their liking or not. For me, I look for balance and neutrality. In terms of brightness, I find that my LG LP171WU1 TLA2 has more than enough brightness for my needs. I keep the brightness at 42% and anything higher than that would be on the too bright side.

Notebookcheck got their review model from a German seller, so the parts that European sellers put in Clevo barebones may differ from North American sellers. For a fact, I know that RJTech and Sager install LG panels in the M570TU, specifically the LG LP171WU1 TLB2.

True. Screen quality is pretty subjective. It's just that the review with the other panel was frankly depressing and I'm just glad they have now moved to a better screen :)

Notebookcheck publishes really biased and poor quality reviews. Stick around NBR a little longer. You will find that this is true.

The LG LP171WU1 TLB2 is basically a rebranded panel for the 17 inch Apple Macbooks. If you like the quality of Macbook panels, then you're going to like the LG panel that the NP5797 ships with since they are essentially the same model. My M570TU shipped with the TLB2 until I swapped it out for the stunning TLA2.

    My screen is a AU Optronics B170UW01 V0 (1900x1200) 17"
I bought my clevo based laptop in europe tho (Netherlands to be precise) from a company named xxodd.
But the screen is really nice, eventho I think the lg is a little bit better (?).
    No complaints here tho ;)
You can always ask your reseller theyre bound to know what screen the notebook has ;)

Oh and nice soviet...wouldve loved to see some photos lol (but that's something I forget to do too when I open up my notebook
and change something, nothing that exciting yet here tho: new cpu/ssd/opticalbay but some people mightve wanted to see how to do
    stuff like that lol).

I didn't have my camera with me when I was swapping my screen. But even if I did, I had no intention of taking pictures of the process to compile into a guide for others to follow. It shouldn't take anymore than 20 minutes to install the screen. What really took up my time was cutting new thermal tape for the rubber feet around the display bezel.

I have an M571RU ( jan '08) and the screen is rather poor. The only complaint i have about the system really. The viewing angles are horrid, but this is my last gaming laptop, i'll be sticking with desktops from now on for my gaming needs. BTW i have an LG screen.

LG has over a dozen variations for their 17 inch panel. Which one do you have specifically?

I have an AU Optronics 1680x1050 matte screen, from march '08, and it really sucks. I don't really understand how it is possible for a screen to suck this much.

For example, when I play S.T.A.L.K.E.R. in dark areas, the screen is completely black. I have to set the in-game brightness all the way to the maximum just to see a little bit.

Also, the colors are really washed out. Piece of trash, I really need to get a new screen...

Hmmm as I said i have a au optronics too but then 1920x1200 (glossy).
And it's a good screen, could you post the type number of the screen?
And did you try and calibrate the screen manually?

I've got the 1680 x 1050 version of the LG display and it's quite good. I'm actually thinking of upgrading to the WUXGA display down the road though.

Yours refers to the LP171WU1. If your M570TU is from Sager, then you have the TLB2 variant.

how do you check this on your laptop?
Is there a specific software to find out or does it require like technical process (as in opening the screen etc)?
I'm guessing the LPLE400 refers to the one you are referring, im just asking cuz it seems other ppl know what they got and i can't seem to find it myself.

If you want to be absolutely sure of the model number for your panel, then open up your display and take a peek at the back of the panel. But I'm 100% sure that LPLE400 refers to the LP171WU1. I've had that screen before.

    thanks for your info/help
I was just curious because the colours do look kinda washed out and the brightness is not as bright as some other ppl refer too. So i was just wandering if I had a defected or some other model.

EDIT: I just installed PC wizard 2009 and it gave me Manufacturer RP616, i googled it and all i see is dell screens.
    so I'm guessing it isn't LP171WU1?

It is an LG panel rebranded as a Dell panel. Just like on my TLB2, APP9C69 is the ID for Apple. In the Dell forum, they call the RP616 the "TrueLife" screen.

does anyone knows the lg reference number for the anti-glare type tft panel?
i have a m570tu with the LPLE400 one and intend to change it to a anti-glare type one :) as i use my laptop most time outdoors.

What are the differences between all those part numbers? by the specs, they all look the same to me lol :D
