So after 2 years and 3 months, my NP5797 finally failed.

I am able to start the computer, I see the harddrive working etc. so I assume it's working correct, but the screen won't display anything (the backlight is on, but there is no picture on top)

I tried connecting an external screen and it gave the same problem. Backlight is on, but no picture.

    What do I do now?

You know the drill. Remove the battery and remount all the core components (CPU, RAM, VGA) one by one and try again.

Also, what were you doing on your computer the last time before it went out?

Yesterday it worked fine all day, I had it connected to my HDTV.

Then today when I tried turning it on, I noticed both the HDTV and laptop screen were black, but the harddrive was still running and the windows startup sound played fine, so I suspect the graphic card.

Funny how it's always the graphic card that fails first EVERY SINGLE TIME in all laptops I've had. And it's always a nVidia card. Coincidence? I think not.
