Hey, I was looking a getting a Sager NP6110 from XoticPC for college, as it's not only tiny but has the power I need for what I want to do.

I was thinking about getting it as an early Christmas present for myself, but then I saw Intel's new lineup of announced Haswell CPU's that not only enhance the integrated graphics but tremendously help the battery life, assuming that the 650M won't be too over-demanding if it gets an update to the GDDR5 memory.

My question is, should I wait to get the laptop as a graduation gift (April/May next year), under the assumption that an updated model with the new Haswell CPU's will be out?
Or should I just get the NP6110 now, it being plenty good enough as it is? I'll be needing a powerful laptop for college either way, and getting the laptop before May is almost essential.

Also, would the prices be lower early next year having followed the Christmas season, or would they keep the price steady in light of an updated model following closely afterwards?

(Obviously, I've put a lot of thought into this, and I hope your answer will acknowledge that.)

The price will likely stay the same, but obviously change sometimes due to things like end of school sales/ start of summer sales, holiday discounts etc. As for Haswell, you won't really need the integrated GPU. We really don't know yet how much of a difference the battery life on the new CPUs will be, so it basically comes down to if you need ASAP it or not.

Only buy in December if it's completely necessary, it'd probably be worth waiting for the refresh otherwise. I'm waiting to see if they'll add a backlit keyboard to the 6110 next model :) fingers crossed but I doubt it.

What do you think the likelihood would be of seeing the GT650m w/ GDDR5 memory, given they improve the airflow?

Considering the success of this model, I really hope that they do improve on it and offer something like a 650m or 660m with GDDR5 in a 13" form factor with 1600x900 screen and backlit keyboard. If you really don't need it until next year then I would recommend waiting. There may be other models available with similar features from other manufacturers as well.

GDDR5 isn't so much about heat as it is about additional power required. See this post: http://forum.notebookreview.com/sag...ger-np6110-owners-lounge-111.html#post8518519

When would Clevo normally update their product line? Is it something sporadic that they just shoot at throughout the year, or could I be looking forward to early next year, following the W110ER's release on April of this year?

Rumors are there may be some new models dropping end of November/December time frame but nothing 100% confirmed as of yet.

I hope they don't bring out a massively improved one, because I just made the purchase on my W110ER XD

To be honest, I had no choice, my current laptop was going to lose so much value next year that I had to make the purchase. I have no problem with anything but battery life from what I've read so far. Most seem to want to do much more serious gaming on it than me. DDR3 does the job just fine ^^

DDR3 is perfectly fine for the 1366x768 resolution to be honest. I just want a larger display, like 13", and a backlit keyboard and a high quality display, something with good viewing angles, IPS preferably, or something similar in quality.

With you there. I'd love a 13" with similar components at a decent price.

@Derek - Thank you for the info.

@Razyre - That's what I was saying with the upgraded GPU. A backlit keyboard would take away from the battery life too, so going along with what HTWingNut is saying, here's to a 13" 'hybrid' form factor, which would still make it portable while improving the battery life/screen for more even more powerful options.

@HTWingNut - Well, making it 13" with a backlit keyboard wouldn't be much trouble. It's the IPS-esque screen that'd be the problem at that size, still. Sure, there'd probably be one, but at a price ~$200, likely. I just hope there'd be better options than there are now, where you'd have to pay that much just to have the matte screen.

    And I'm not worried *that much* about DDR3 vs GDDR5, I just thought that the ability to hook it up to a nice big HDTV without much of a hit would be pretty cool once in a while. I've got a 73" Mitsubishi DLP, and I haven't been able to use it as much as I'd like ^^;

In terms of matte vs. matte 75-95% color gamut, I'd just be happy with calibrating the lesser of the two and calling it a day. I just hope for a matte screen that isn't so much extra.
