I am, evermore, rather new and uneducated to the performance notebook scene, and as a result was hoping to get some advice before playing all mad scientist.

I am coming into a NP8690 and a NP7280. The NP8690 currently does not have a functioning GPU as a previous owner managed to brick a 5870m that was installed by overwriting the BIOS.

    Two questions then:

1.) Can a 580M, which I believe is nothing other than MXM3.0B, work in a NP8690 which I believe also accomodates MXM 3.0B size cards? I imagine there would be extra power draw, resulting in the need for a new power brick, but would the internals handle it fine?

2.) Since the NP7280 has two MXM 3.0B slots, could I boot with a 580M and 5870M installed simultaneously as a means of reflashing the 5870M while using the 580M for video output?

    Thanks!
