I have a Crucial M500 240gb ssd drive in my 2nd hard drive slot for storage. According to CrystalDisk Mark it's running at 53c and sometimes gets has high as 59c.

By contrast I have a Crucial M550 256gb ssd as my main OS hard drive and it runs anywhere from 38c to 43c.

Is this normal? Is the 2nd hard drive slot on Sager units known to be hotter?

Not positive, but I believe so. Basically, my understanding is that the second drive is closer to the other heat generating components, and it is those that are warming it more than anything else.

It is closer to the other components like alexhawker mentioned which is resulting in those higher temps. However those temps are nothing to worry about.

59C is nothing. One of my msata goes right up to 65C because it has no direct ventilation.

I believe the M500 start underclocking themselves at 70C, 50s should be fine.

The M550 runs cooler than the M500 in my experience.

The second drive is almost always going to be hotter, there is nowhere for the heat to go.

It would start being an issue for a HDD but SSDs are more resilient.

If it gets too much hotter then it does start to get a little concerning, just keep an eye from time to time.
