the stupid keyboard. I mean really? a $4k laptop with a $5 keyboard? So I want to know what are my mod options for this keyboard? Is there a way to put in a backlit keyboard? Can I wire it to the touch panel with the light show on it? Where would I find the electrical prints for these parts of the laptop? I am going to buy a $250 laptop from wal-mart and practice moding it. Except for the keyboard style/layout I love this laptop, I need to figure out a better way to cool it as well, it is getting way to hot on the table and I occasionally loose my video while playing EQII. I only have a month to fix all of this stuff I want my machine running at top peak performance when FFXIV is released. Thanks for any comments and suggestions.

Well, there is not much you can do about it unless you mod it yourself which could prove difficult. There is no backlit option for the X8100. Backlit is more of a gimmick to me since the screen is bright enough to illuminate the keyboard at night. Clevo uses the same keyboard in all their newer laptops and I actually like it - but you can always try to mod it, would be cool to have backlit especially on the X8100.
What temps do you have? -
backlit mod is just a cool thing I think, not necessary, but it's really the actual functioning of the keyboard I don't like. Maybe I have a bad keyboard or poor typing habits, but I miss the space bar a lot when typing (I only press the space bar with my right thumb), and sometimes letters don't show when I push them, and then I have to push them a second or sometimes third time. Even my gf says the keyboard is not very responsive and poorly designed.
I never thought about looking for a temp monitoring program, found one and will run it tonight and get back with temp readings. -
I would personally just suggest getting a good external keyboard for your 'home base' setup. I used to game like that with my Gateway P-7805u and a Logitech G15, and that was awesome.

Well as far as the over heating problem it was due to running SLi with a game that is older and doesn't support SLi. I am worried however that the video card(s) where damaged. I guess only time will tell. Also I have concerns about the new game that will be taking advantage of SLi. We will have to wait and see how the system behaves.
Is it possible to change to ATI Xfire on this MB? How do I find out what MB I have?
thanks for all of the info and advice.
