I haven't had my NP8130 (Malibal branded) for very long, yet already the touch pad has a large area (almost the whole upper left quadrant) and a smaller area (approximately the top 1/3 of the vertical scroll area) that has had the texture wear off, and the touchpad has become shiny.
I don't care about the cosmetic difference, but it has actually provided a very different tactile response -- the shiny areas will grab your finger rather than letting them slide over smoothly. It's somewhat like the feeling between a smooth plastic and a rubberized plastic. It makes the touchpad incredibly difficult to use, and borderline unusable when precision is required.
Is this touchpad really so bad that it would do this in such a short time? I've had it since maybe late October / early November.

It sounds unusual to me. I've had my P150HM since March (one of the first shipped after the recall) and I've not had any issues at all with it. I managed to scratch the lid lightly with a mouse I left on top, but it's small and cosmetic. My touchpad works and looks basically brand new though.
Try contacting MALIBAL to see if they can RMA it for you? -
I've had my P150HM since September. I don't use a mouse, only the touchpad so it sees frequent use, almost every day. Mine still feels brand new with no wear at all.
Stupid question: Have you tried cleaning it with a lint free cloth?
Have you used any kind of chemical cleaning agent on it?
Furniture polish or anything like that?
(Not that I'm suggesting that you have but if so - don't do this, just use a lint free cloth, slightly dampened with water) -
Yes cleaned with lint free cloth. No, never used chemical cleaning agent on it. -
Pics or it didnt happen.

About your touch pad, I have not had any problems with mine, nor have I heard of this problem from anyone. Honestly I barely use the touch pad though, I think its terrible, I always have a mouse. Maybe if you called the people you ordered it from they might exchange it for you. I do not think it is covered by the warranty though. -
I also an 8150 but I'm not sure if our touchpads have the same texture.
Mine was kinda rubbery to begin with and over time it became a little shiny. However this has made it much easier to use.
Had mine since April, and afaik haven't seen that issue mentioned on this subforum.
Maybe it would be best to contact your reseller as others have suggested.
I've seen some people cover their touchpads with screen protector plastics meant for cell phones, you could try that if you wanted a diy, but I'd go through your reseller first

Here you go smart guy. Thanks for your contribution.
The look is similar to that as if there was an oil buildup there, but cleaning it has showed that isn't the case -- it's most certainly the texture rubbing off. Like I said it creates an area that really grabs your fingertip.
I would expect wear if I'd had this a while, but after only a few months... -
As I understand it the 8150 is a rubberized touchpad (as you stated) whereas the 8130 has a hard plastic touchpad. I haven't handled an 8150 but it's my understanding they are significantly different. -
I use a mouse if I've got it set up on a desk or something but when I'm sitting in my recliner for instance, I just use the touchpad. -
I don't think I could stand using the touchpad for more than spot duty. This is why I use a laptop cart that scoots into and over my lap. It functions as my portable desk, complete with a laptop cooler and a mouse. -
Been looking for one I liked but haven't found one that I've found acceptable. Which do you use? -
same thing with my laptop the 8130.i thought it happened to everyone.so only few of us have this?

Makes the touchpad quite difficult to use, doesn't it? -
Contact your reseller and ask for a replacement, this definetely isnt normal.
Dont want to steal the thread, but id just like to know if everyones touchpad is also enabled after each reboot even if youve disabled it before (using the FN+F1)? Its really annoying to have to disable it again every time... Any one have a solution to this? -
-
-
Yes, they can replace the entire palmrest which includes the touchpad. At least thats what id demand.
Anyone let me know if your touchpad also always re-enables itself after a reboot? -
Yup, touch pad re enables itself every reboot on my 8170 as well

Damn thats annoying... I guess i could disable it in device manager but this isnt the way its suppossed to work is it?
-
regarding replacing the touchpad i had bought from xoticpc and had a local business shipped it from the usa to here in asia.soo -
i have the zip file if u cant find it
-
If you can upload it do send me a link in pm please. I remember having that on the G73JH - reg entry to enable or disable it. Should be better than disabling in device manager.
I dont know what to tell you about your TP though... Send Xotic photos and ask if they can send you a replacement if youre comfortable doing the swap yourself. -
here u go.there seems to be 2 regedit files though.

Yes my touchpad does the same
-
First thing I did after I ordered the laptop was order a new wireless mouse, this being one of the reasons... Cheap plastic wears very quickly especially if you have sweaty or greasy hands
-
It shouldnt wear out like that with normal use.
Thanks for uploading deepeshb! -
np
but my is almost shiny the whole touhpad -
They do not replace the touchpad considering it's attached to the body of the laptop. I went to a local Sager office to ask about it.
-
As i said theyd need to replace the entire palmrest (the upper part of the chassis) which houses the touchpad.
-
The entire palm rest would need to be replaced. Hard to find, but not impossible to do. Check online for a unit that has been parted out...
you won't see parts for these models until they are second generation or in their legacy phase... Just the way it is with technology. -
i read a similar thread where the person used rubbing alcohol to wipe the oils away and bring it back to its original state. definitely worth a try
-
-
not the same model but hopefully it ll still work for you.
Sager NP5160 Touchpad Wear - XOTICPC Forums
"Well, you've inspired me to find a solution. At my work we use rubbing alcohol to clean oil residue off parts. I dabbed at little bit of alcohol (90% isopropol) and lightly padded the area and then wiped it clean with a microfiber cloth. Needless to say this took almost all of it off! I repeated several more times until it looked just as good as it did when I first got it.
I'm not sure if this is good to do long-term or not though... " -
It's not oil. The plastic is worn off. I do not have oily or sweaty hands, matter of fact my hands tend to be super dry from working outside in the cold.
Oh and now my left button doesn't click. It activates but there is very little tacticle response from it. -
-
Yep sure did. Contacted Malibal today.
Right now the left mouse button as of today stopped working entirely. The quick tap on the mousepad to make it act as a left mouse button click also no longer functions.
