I'm trying to figure out what the differences are between these two... For the base models of each, the 8150 seems to have less RAM and Hard Drive space, but is priced higher.

Hopefully it isn't something obvious that I feel stupid about once you point it out.... I know the 8150 has the option to upgrade the GPU, but besides that I don't see much.

Other than the minor differences, the 8150 can take upgraded video cards, (up to the GTX 485), the 8130 can't. (yet. It does have the capability, but you would need to find a card that uses the same power as the 460).

    NP8130 // NP8150
Matte default screen // Glossy default screen
No upgrades to GPU // GPU Upgradeability
    Plastic surface // Rubberized Finish
    120W Power Supply // 180W Power Supply
    Lesser cooling // More cooling
    Can't take extreme CPU // 2920xm-able

Let me know if there is anything else that is different..

The factory has said that it is VERY possible that there may be upgrades available to the GPU in this one. The 460M is NOT the end of the road for this model neccesarily at all... :)

How well will a DIVY dock take to the 8130?

You can't DIYdock the newer Sager models as they removed the ExpressCard slots, unfortunately.

Not really, the GTX 485m is one HELL of a card. Benchmarks shows that it rivals SLI configurations. The GTX 460m is certainly a pretty good card as well - certainly better than my previous GTX 280m

but with a desktop GPU, the system will scream and likely go into 30k plus marks! Can you imagine?

We all can imagine that haha.

But I guess Sager and many other manufacturers did not consider the Express card slot in their designs. Some even say that it is to prevent having DIY docks in fact. A lot of users resent the use of those slots due to the waste of space. I only ever use that slot for my X-Fi soundcard to be honest.

I guess I go to Lenovo Y560p/Y570pSB wihich has an express card slot-powerful enough on the go and if there is a hardcore game that I need to play with really high FPS needs - click goes in the 6970 dektop gpu!

Does the NP8150 support Optimus technology?
I am looking forward to purchasing a machine that will allow me to upgrade the GPU and so the 8150 looks like the obvious choice, but would this machine be able to support ATI GPUs?

    No optimus,

but yes, it has been announced that the 8150 will support ATI GPU, namely the 6970m.

Could you explain this? I thought that you can't put a graphics card (or accelerator) in a express card slot.

He's talking about the " DIY ViDock", where one would use the Express Card slot to provide an interface to an external desktop GPU which gets powered by a PSU, essentially eliminating the need of having the less potent mobile GPU on the laptop. These are normally encased in it's own enclosure, with users hard modding most of the needed components.

In this way, you can use your laptop to an " almost" full effect. There's still bottlenecks due to the speed of the Express card slot in comparison with the PCIx16 bus line; you won't get speeds like in desktops but it's much faster than the likes of mobile GPUs.

    Have a look here:-

Crickee, completely missed that. The availability of Optimus with Sandy B. rollout is one reason I've held out (for Sager 81xx series)

Hmmm . . . . 51XX series does, but the GPUs are middling.
