I have a clevo p150hm, and it will rarely go to sleep correctly. I have read about this problem alot in the owners lounge, but no one seems to know the solution. When I try to put it to sleep (sleep button, close lid, doesn't matter) the screen will go black and the system will become totally unresponsive, but all lights and fans will stay on continuously, until the battery dies. The only thing that the system will do is turn off if I hold the power button.
I was about to try reinstalling windows when I found out that other people have had the problem too, does anybody know what could be causing this/what to do about it? It seems to be relatively widespread.

What's your exact configuration? Are you running an SSD? Disabling LPM support on the SSD may help. People also seem to have had luck reinstalling their video drivers.
-
Its in my sig, but for some reason that won't show up.
i7 2720qm
gtx 560m
16gb ddr3
vertex 3 240gb
I disabled Lpm within the first day because it was always freezing up, then 2 days ago, I upgraded the ssd firmware, no change.
Thanks, I'll give that a try, I haven't tried that yet.
Edit: There it is -
There are many people who have this problem, me included, but I dont know of any fixes. For me it helped minimizing everything before sleeping it.
-
I've done that before, and while it does seem to help, it definitely still happens with everything minimized or closed
-
This works for me,
I assume that you are using a USB 3.0 device. So, All you need to do is just unplug all the USB 3.0 devices and you'll be able to wake it up eventually. No harm to give it a try. It works for me! -
I tried reinstalling the video driver, but that didn't do anything unfortunately.
It seems to always happen now, where-as before, it was only sometimes, idk why.
When this first started happening, I thought it was because I had a logitech unifying receiver plugged in, but that turned out to not be it, and now it won't even sleep with nothing plugged in -
1) unplug everything (including ethernet cable, external mouse or keyboard, ac adapter)
2) Minimize all applications
3) ensure that your battery is not at 100% (even 99% will do)
4) make sure your settings are concurrent with the following guide/list: Power Options and Sleep Mode Problems - Vista Forums -
I've had everything unplugged while trying to put it to sleep, and the times it does work I have never had any applications up.
My settings line up with that link to. Does yours sleep reliably when you follow those steps?
I'm gonna try installing win 7 to a hard drive to see if that helps, that's what rj tech suggested I try. -
By a complete accident I have found the issue and the solution to my p150hm sleep issue!
It appears the touch pad driver was the problem. All I did was go to the synaptics website and download the most recent generic drivers ( Drivers | Synaptics at the bottom of the page click on windows 7 64 bit, starts an automatic download, run exe) Weirdly, By using a generic driver instead of the oem specific one, (there's a warning about doing that on the download page) everything works better now.
My p150hm now sleeps reliably, every single time. Sleep button, time out, lid, doesn't matter. It also sleeps no problem with windows up and resumes immediately. -
Awesome. Thanks for the follow up - this could help a lot of people
-
Yep, gonna save this thread as my P150 is due soon

Can anyone confirm if the updated Synaptics TouchPad drivers worked?
I solved this problem by turning off power management for the Wireless NIC (Intel Centrino) - problem of course then being that I had to manually reconnect to my wireless network when I resume.
Then, for some reason, the problem started up again.
I tried moving up to the most recent Intel drivers from the Sager site, no dice - at least if I turn power management back on. There is an updated version from Intel but I had to roll back on it - it was apparently causing lag and packet loss spikes.
I'm going to try the Synaptics drivers to see if that helps. -
Just thought I'd flag that I have this issue too - so it is clearly a bug/clash of some kind. I have not updated any drivers and for now shall keep it this way until I have solved other issues......
-
I can confirm that the latest synaptics drivers do fix the issue.
When I first switched to the synaptics driver, it still had occasional problems, but on the latest driver I have had zero sleep issues. I've never had to change a WiFi setting either -
Arghh!
I have an infuriating sleep issue now. No idea whats changed with my system to induce this.
When I put the laptop into sleep mode (by closing the lid or through the start menu), the display switches off but the power lights remain on and the fans are still spinning. Quite clearly the PC is still active. It is then impossible to revive the system from this point onwards, and so needs to be switched off by holding down the power button. Annoying as hell!
I've tried googling for solutions but unsuccesful so far! -
I thought I had sleep issues before. I would close the lid and the green light would blink, indicating sleep. Then later on i would notice the light turning solid green signifying that the laptop was awake which I confirmed when i saw the screen on.
I later discovered that it was my mouse's movement waking up the laptop.
So you could also try pulling out or turning off your mouse and other peripherals that may cause the unit to wake.

This issue occurs regardless of whats plugged in or not.
EDIT: Found the solution to my problem
The problem was very erratic and inconsistent. Sometimes correct sleeping behaviour would occur sometimes not. I managed to narrow down that correct sleep behaviour only occurred at the early stages of logging on. Therefore the hypothesis was that there was a service/process that was being loaded up in the early stages of log on that was interferring with the sleep behaviour.
I then used a more scientific approach by monitoring the system log to see exactly what was interferring with the sleep mode.
1. I started up the machine and as quick as possible fired up the System Log (Right click My Computer/Manage/Event Viewer/Windows Log/System
2. I then took note of the time and proceeded to put the machine into sleep mode
3. The first attempts were successful and the corresponding events would be logged in the System Log
4. When the bad sleep mode occurred (power still fully on/ blank scree/ fans spinning) i took note of the corresponding events
5. It turns out that a network printer/scanner driver (!) was interferring with the sleep mode... "Printer has stopped power transition"; "Scanner has stopped power transition"
6. I then removed the network printer from my machine and the PC has been sleeping fine since! w00t
Now the sleep issue occurred regardless of whether i was on the network the printer was on or not. Also, printer drivers were not updated or changed prior to the problem occurring so I can only imagine that a windows update has inadvertently caused the issue.
Now a network printer may not be the cause of everyones sleep issues here but consider using the same systematic analysis of the sleep behaviour using the System Log and it may tell you precisely what the issue is.
