    Good Day All,

    1. I am choosing b/w this machine and Alienware 17x R3. Any ideas on which is better for my needs (want to play Rift on ultra).

    2. What is the usual wait time for Sager machines from order to delivery?

    3. Is it worth waiting for 6970 to come out for Sager (supposedly soon) or go with 485 (money is not an issue). I heard that Rift preferes Nvidia.

    Thanks a lot.

EDIT: I am not sure if I used the right model number for a 17" Sager.

    1. Too early to ask, but should be about equal

    2. Something close to ten business days, depending

    3. When the 6970M hits Sagers, the NP8170 will then come out as hundreds cheaper than the M17x. A stock Sager with 6970M should be around $1650, while the M17x is $2k, with 6970M and 1080p upgrade.

    That sounds nice. =]

If this is indeed true then the 485m is the most powerful notebook GPU at the moment, even the 6970m while cheaper, and very close to the 485m in terms of graphics power, will not be as powerful. There maybe other reason to wait for the 6970 or the alienware (price/looks/style), but graphics power is not one of them.

looks to me that the 6970M is faster than the 485M but it's too early to call

Hmm... You could be right I saw a anandtech review that put the 6970 as very close to the gtx 485, certainly a serious threat for the price point at a whole, what is it $200 cheaper?, but I think the 485, still proved to be a little better, but it was really close. nvidia not yet do something dx11 improvement with the 485m driver but amd did(see catalyst 11.4)
so we see 485m win in vantage and lose in 11(485m even cant run sli with official one 265.77 and have to use the modded one)

They are so close to equal that it isn't really worth comparing.

Nividia lost me a long time ago over the 7950gtx 8800gtx fiasco. I had to replace my 7950 7 times in the first year and my 8800 5 times in 7 months. I will never buy another. One thing I have noticed unless you are some hardcore OCer that love sharing e_peen numbers on NBR. You dont need Xfire or SLI for gaming. Its just a huge headache avoid at all cost.
