I'll just say I have a non-Sager branded Clevo and leave it at that.

It depends on the company, size does not always make a difference you do need to look into each individually.
-
Trust me I wasted a month of my life literally reading every single thread on the reseller forum, which is how I ended up knowing which companies to avoid and why. Sadly companies do change over time, and some that once had stellar ratings don't seem to be living up to their reputation anymore.

Minor update. I purchased 2 powered USB hubs, port 1 still drops connections to any external HDD I use, even my cells: Galaxy Note 1 and 3... Very odd if you ask me.
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Have you looked at the port information? Is it part of the same group as the others or does it run through a different hub?
-
Yeah. I will say if it's 1 thing about Xotic is that they do work for the consumer. Sager... sager should never be dealt with directly. Never. Ever. If you think you should, you are wrong. I don't care if it's an opinion. It is the incorrect opinion.
I was under labour (not parts) warranty for my D900F at one point; this was back when the default D900F aka NP9280 warranty was 1 year parts 3 years warranty. I did not deal with Xotic because the number I would call sent me to Sager. I e-mailed them back and forth and kept trying to buy a D900F keyboard from them as my old one was BROKEN. And I do mean broken. They would not even consider a keyboard for it for me until I gave my warranty info, then realized I was still under a partial warranty, so they would sell me the keyboard in question. It cost too much to ship it from there though ($50 for keyboard, $230 for shipping to my country, in USD) and thus I decided to go the route of having them sell it to my uncle who was visiting his wife in the US at the time, and they agreed. So I properly conveyed the information and such, and they did the business.
When my uncle got back to Trinidad, he gave me something. His words: "They said they did not have one that would work because they're out of production, but they gave us this instead for $20 and said it would work". What I received was the white top panel with integrated keyboard of a Macbook of some kind. It even had a "command" key where the windows key would normally be. It was inseparable from the top braket and did not even contain a keyboard ribbon I could have attached. They essentially 100% duped my uncle and aunt for $20 for some old mac part they had lying around. I wish I had a picture I could show you all, but you can imagine how livid I was. I never bothered mentioning it on here, but it was the primary reason I wished to avoid Sager when I bought the machine I have now.
So let this be a lesson people: Xotic. Not Sager. Xotic. Xotic is love, Xotic is life, Xotic is your friend, Xotic can smack Sager twice upside the head and say "NO! BAD SAGER! WORK!" and you don't get swindled like they swindled my poor uncle or they tried to swindle the OP here.
This has been a story from the vault. Maybe one day you'll hear more of what I have in memory, we'll seeHutsady@XoticPC likes this. -

You should have shared with pictures, seriously. That's not right.

Good plan, I'm the same way. 2 seconds of effort can get you a long way, can save so much hassle.

Oh noticed something else. I had a line across the screen when I sent it in, Sager told XoticPC that the screen was damaged due to pressure or weight on the back of the panel and it would not be covered under the warranty... They wanted me to pay for a new screen and I said no so they sent it back with the original screen, however, the line is mysteriously gone after they replaced the GPU and Motherboard. So Sager either lied or have no idea how to diagnose and repair their own laptops.

Give our tech support a call in the morning or feel free to open a service ticket under the Contact section on our site. If you open the ticket it will get them all the info they need.

Holy crap Religion! At this point I think Sager should just offer you a brand spanking new 980m equipped equivalent laptop.
-
Sager isn't Alienware unfortunately.
I do hope though Sager will still honor the warranty, because I'm not sure if this replacement 6990M that failed is still within the original 3 years. I just hope Sager doesn't wash their hands and go "too bad so sad". -
And Alienware wouldn't replace it with a 980M setup anyway, they would do a 765M or similar. -
I edited my post after Ethrem quoted me in case anyone's confused.
-
The initial response I am getting is "to bad". I am pushing for more because I feel this is a failure to honor the warranty. They definitely put a broken part in and I found out now only because I didn't push it immediately...
As for a complete system replacement I don't think that is warranted unless they can't get another 6990m and even then I would be happy with a 860m system because it has almost identical specs.

I have many stories about Sager and why their support is a mess. Xotic can hound them to do some good however. I wish you luck religion, and believe me: you will get something good with Xotic hounding them for it. Just make sure you always go through them and not Sager =3.

It was a good time to buy for money vs performance that would last. Glad to hear they are still being enjoyed.

what i really liked about the 8150 was its form factor and business like look that hid the gaming power undeneath, as a 45 year old gamer and entrepreneur, ive taken this laptop to numerous meetings, business trips and coffee shop discussions. i dont think id be as comfortable doing that with the new sager designs, especially with that logo on top.

The Pxx0SMx machines are pretty businesslike. I can tell you for sure nobody thinks anything of my P370SM3

If you look through the pictures in this TI thread, you'll see the tail lights have their own power cables, so if you removed them you could have your keyboard lights without the tail lights. Of course this does require you to remove the palmrest so it looks to be involved. You could always opt for a more permanent solution though *cough*scissors*cough*

Better to take the time and keep it reversible I think

Buying a set of plastics would not be cheap...
-
Honestly the cheapest way is to quite literally pull the plug on those LED lights. Of course it's also the most involved. So do you value your money or your time more?
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Or do you just leave them is the other option I suppose.
-
Ah yes, do you value your time, money, or happiness more? There we go.
