I'm having problems with the ribbon connector on the back of my screen getting loose. I've had to reconnect it 3 times now. Anyone else having this problem and have found a good way to keep it connected?

I have not seen this as a normal problem. Is it an original screen or was it upgraded? The manufacturers will generally use a strong piece of tape (good job Mysterious!) to hold it in place.

This was the original screen. I had never opened up the computer prior to my first incident of loose connection. I made sure to give a good tight "sticking" with the original tape. If it happens again, maybe I'll grab some more tape from the hardware store and really immobilize it.

The stuff that is holding it in place now seems like some industrial strength scotch tape. I was gonna try to find something similar. something strong, nontoxic, and will not leave a residue.

Does it have threads running through it?

The piece on the actual cable connection point has no threads. There is more tape that holds the cable ribbon on the back of the monitor, and that is threaded.

The threaded tape will hold up better in heat, and not tear. Not sure what you mean by the actual connection point. Do you mean to the motherboard?

If you do use tape to hold it, you'll need something that doesn't leave a ton of residue and won't melt with heat.

I'd try a bit of gaffer's tape, though it can be pretty thick. Not sure if it'd interfere.

The connection point I was talking about was where the cable ribbon connects to the back of the monitor. That part is held together by clear scotch tape. There is an area where the cable ribbon runs along the bottom of the monitor, and that is held together by what i think is a threaded tape. If I have any more problems, I'll check out some gaffer's tape. That seems like the perfect kind of stuff for the job. I think there's plenty of room for a good heavy duty taping.

I'm still having a problem with this. I've been using a non residue duck tape, and I've tried taping it in many different patterns with varying amounts of tape, but nothing lasts. I'm thinking about upscaling my attempts to fix, maybe start with a new cable ribbon, or a new monitor... any other suggestions?
