    Hey guys,

I bought my np8150 last year in June and have been enjoying it since. Recently I noticed that the temperature has been shooting up pretty high and I've opened up the back plate a few times to get rid of the dust.

Just two days ago, the temperature started to rise during a game of BF3. It usually stays constant at about 73 celcius but at this time it gradually rose over a period of half hour to reach 93 at which the gpu downclocks and the game becomes unplayable.

I then opened the backplate to remove whatever minimal dust I could find but after reassembling the back plate and launching up the game, I realise that somehow the temperatures have got worse. The gpu temps now go from 43 idle to 93-95 within 3 minutes upon gaming.

Is this a clear indication for a repaste? Am on the IC diamond compound at the moment. Could it be when I removed the dust, I may have misaligned the heat fins or am I thinking too much.

The insides look like they should, nice and clear of any dust. If you're using it on a flat surface (looks like it by the desk) so you're getting good air flow then a repaste is the next step.

I use it on board a zallman cooling pad. However the idle temperatures are just fine. If I need a repaste, wouldnt they be high?

If the CPU isn't being loaded then you won't see much higher temps over ambient, as this situation plays out it does likely look like you need some new TIM.

I opened my old PC once (which runs as a server) and it had no paste whatsoever, was still running fine but you should always check your TIM levels.

Thanks, will definitely do that after I've bought the needed isopropyl alcohol and IC diamond.

One question though, as you can on the gpu side, there seem to be two heat sinks, do I need to remove both and repaste them both? Im not really sure what the second one is for.

You will only have to apply the IC Diamond compound on the CPU core, nothing else as everything else should have thermal tape stuck to the heatsink, it is usually black in colour.

EDIT: sorry "CPU" core, oh and a heatsink is generally split into the fan component and the actual heat sink itself , so you will have to remove both to apply the new paste.

The other one is for the CPU. If the temperature in the CPU is normal you don't need to.

Edit: Oh, you meant the part for the vRAM's heatsink, no you don't have to...

What I meant was, there seems to be two heat sinks attached to the GPU. Do I have to remove them both and repaste? One of them, the one not attached to the chip seems to have green tape beneath it.

No, only remove the one for the core, it should be the only one with paste on it, the rest is thermal tape for VRM/Memory etc.

Yes. It's as if they were just dabbing it heavily on the outer-most part of the plate instead of applying it evenly, lightly, and thoroughly across the entire thing.

Haha yeah, I immediately noticed the temperature change when I turned on the fans to the max and watch the ambient temps sink to 37C.

All in all, a good day :)

Yep. I would say any day you go from a load temperature of 95 to 60 is a VERY good day. Haha. :)

Great job on your part!! Glad everything went well.
